Battletech Lore - Dire Wolf (Daishi) Assault Battlemech

I looked this up on purpose. A long time ago (back when I helped playtest the Mechwarrior 3 game), a guy started a clan game. We used the old rules to make our mechwarriors (2nd edition, because 3 wouldn't come out for another 6 months or so) and I dumped all my points into stats and abilities (yes, I was a min-maxer back then, and half my age). So, having spent all my points for the best possible starting skills and natural aptitude in gunnery, I got to roll randomly for my mech. No choosing, strictly at the mercy of the dice. The game master required that I roll in front of everyone (no problem with that, just pointing out I had like 20 witnesses), and let the dice decide my fate. Right in front of that audience I rolled percentile dice on the charts provided, and got two (2) 100's (double 00's) in a row! So I started with a Diashi Widowmaker. Only way to get one on the charts. And I was hoping for at least a heavy mech with some decent firepower, lol! I even had a friend paint me a figurine exactly like the original (black and red). He was a pro, and charged me for it (he painted Warhammer 40k crap all the time for cash). We were all clan Wolf, and role played going into exile, if I recall correctly. I eventually earned a blood name (Ward). I had a blast (literally) with that guy. Absolutely destroyed almost everything in sight and in range (which was just about everything)...

Perfect timing! I'm playing Rougetech while watching this, staring at a Dire Wolf H in my lance ( to go with a Marauder II, a Gausszilla and a Mad Cat MKII). I've loved this mech ever since the Blood of Kerensky series. Lots of good times playing it in MW2 and 4.

Pre Clan invasion I ran a Shadow Hawk, I was a big Grey Deth Legion fan. As my skills improved I outgrew that mech. My next was a Rifleman, then a Whammy, then a Stalker and finally the Atlas. Post Clan invasion I found that the clan tech was vastly superior and when I saw my first Timber wolf it was love at first sight until..........I saw the one that would be my eternal and forever love and home and that I would die in hopefully and if i do die in it I would like be melted in the cockpit so I could bond with it and be a part of it forever, the Daishi! No, really thats over the top LOL, love the mech, it's design, it's loadout, it's armor. You really have to do some grinding if you're gonna get through that CT armor. It's not called a "Great Death" for no reason. This machine cuts swathes through enemy mech lines sometimes with impunity. And now the Daishi C an ECM equipped clan assault mech, snubbed by the "True borns", but a freeborn loyalist's wet dream come true.......muaahahahaha! My personal and all time favorite is a DWF-B she mounts 4 clan spec LBX10's with 7 1/2 tons of ammo, and 4 clan spec flamers. This is a head hunter, she strips armor by the ton per LBX round at range, in close combat the flamers will shut enemy mechs down quickly and give me time to line up the cockpit. You'll know it when you see the name emblazoned in Jade Falcon green on the Center Torso "Death blow" but by then its already to late. LOL. At any rate the idea is to enjoy the game and I have ever since it was Battle droids. So go out and fight hard, die well but most importantly have FUN!!! This is a great great game!

I love this 'Mech. I remember when the Clans were introduced and my best friend suggested a "friendly" match and he would use HALF the units I did. He stomped me into the ground. Daishi? I mean, this thing had the firepower of 2 Atlases, mostly because it could Fire more of it's weapons because of the double heat sinks.

It's a beast of a mech in most of its configurations, but unlike other designs, like the Atlas were you have some iconic mix of armaments, the Dire Wolf feels more like a random collection of weapons you set off each turn and wait until the other mech just keels over. In an Atlas you got the LRM to pound the enemy with until you get within AC/20 range, backed up with that SRM6 to seek crits. On the Dire Wolf it's like : "I fire yet another laser ..."

On the tabletop where most of my gaming goes the Dire Wolf is the Atlas done right. But you also get the limitations 100 tons of mayhem and metal bring. Its SLOW at 3/5 depending on the config heat must be watched.

The mech pilot that is identified as "Th3B33f" has managed to successfully mount a large amount of ppc onto the direwolf frame, as dangerous as it is, it is prone to self damage due to the extreme thermal overload the mech experiences during an alpha strike

You only forgot one important custom mech configuration: The DireStar, 11 ER PPC's, no armour or heatsinks used by The B33f to one shot pretty much any non assault mech in the universe and severely crippling or destroying any assault mech no longer in pristine condition.

@@GrimDarkNarrator The Avatar is a Kurita designed omni. It's one of the one's released in on I want to say the 3055 TRO. It's based off of the Mad Dog/ Vulture clan Omni, with InnerSphere tech. The Sunder was released at the same time.

Probably because: 1. it is modded and therefore unbalanced 2. it costs twice an Atlas and is supposed to have double heat sinks and clan ER lasers. Try fighting 2 Atlas controlled by a human player

Loving it grim thanks for the video. This is one of the mechs I use in mech warrior online expect I changed out the ultra ac weapons with just ac 5 only because I don't like the risk of jamming which the ultra ac are known for but yeah the dire wolf and timber wolf are the two main mech I use I just love the design of them plus they suit my style of warfare perfectly. Though I do use the locust light mech sometimes as if you have a good team with ya and you team up with three or more of the light mechs you can easily take out the larger mechs though it comes at a risk but if you do it right and run circles around them it's hard for them to target ya again this only works if you have three or more light mechs doing the same on one target.

I loved piloting one of these things in MWO with 4x LB 10's and a couple Medium lasers, front load all the armour and just charge forward, anything getting in my way taking 4 shotgun rounds to the center torso, several times if they wasn't smart enough to start running, because to hell with the constant peeking, I came here to fight giant robots, not have a sniper battle.

Minor point of order, noble narrator: the majority of Clan mechs are omnimechs, not battlemechs. If a Clan mech ends in IIC, it's a battlemech. Otherwise, assume omni.

The mk2 default is 2 Gauss rifles 2 lrm 10 and 4 er mediums with 11 more kph for me is a better platform that can and I have kited the standard Dire Wolf to it's death all the while being able to quickly take arms off heavies and straight core mediums with extreme efficiency. With a bonus of 5 mil cb less. Forgot the most important thing it's sexier.

​@@Matt-wm1bf Daishi is slow with the strongest (during the clan invasion) fire power. MC2 (during the clan invasion) is very fast because of jump jets with above average firepower. i prefer Yu Huang if c-bills wasnt an issue. Mostly because of the name and the unique look
