Battletech Lore - Militia and Security Mechs

I think a key issue is that due to the piecemeal development of the setting, the fact it was developed initially from a scifi military table top game, that most pirates were represented using the same high end mitary gear as the great house militaries, rather than using rusted out pieces of repurposed industrial equipment, improvised explosives, and some light military weapons. As of now, pirates as a rule have better gear than the militias they most often face.

The handwaving of Militia and Security mechs as inferior in the bt universe makes zero sense when you compare their stats with light mechs which they almost always are. The Peacekeeper for example is basically a non jump capable valkyrie ambusher. Heavy industrial armour is also the same strength as standard BM armour. I feel they are weird Dark Age remnants in the lore from the "fucky" years of BT/MW

Agreed. The Crossett's base loadout is heavier than the "proper" Assassin battlemech, while weighing the same.

Of course Arbiter is interesting because of its cosmetic strategy.. I just wonder how long it can remain useful as eventually word will spread that it has no bite. It would be funny to see some 'wise' pirates try to call bluff on some upgraded/moded units 😂 BTW I love these more unusual topics!

hello Grim. I noted that you mentioned no variants of the six mechs listed in this video. Are there variants? For myself, I would take the Copper Mech and redesign it a bit, swapping out the to MGs for four Light MGs. Since police forces often have to deal with armed criminals, the SRM launcher should be swapped out for a MML to use both Tear Gas and 'normal' explosive rounds. For a SWAT role, lose the tear gas, and replace half the ammo with SRM, and half with LRM ammo types. This would allow the Copper to fire from longer ranges, and keep firing as the range closes upon the target, until you finally get into MG range, where the four Light MGs would overwhelm the criminal's firepower. Just my thoughts, speaking Frank-ly

So the security in this video is only before 3140? That's why St. Florian is not in this video, St. Florian is the largest Security mech weighing in at 90 tons

I wonder how useful these militia mechs would be in an urban environment against light armor. That is the only role I could see them being useful in other than attacking lightly defended supply lines.

I think they should be fine against light armor, unless the light armor has some heavier weapons.

Why would you mount a thermal energy based weapon like a laser on an aquatic mech? It makes zero sense. All the energy of the beam would be instantly lost by heating up the water...

I feel like the Urbanmech should have been on this list. Though this is BattleTech and the lore makes no sense or have any logic. As to how a Mech could destroy a heavily armored tank head on with no better weapons. While the tank just bounces off the head. Or how a Heavy Mech can jump and a Light Mech would fall apart if you think about it. Really by all logic. Mechs are the worse military options you could choose. The design is highly inefficient and has so many weak points. It is amazing by the logic within the lore. A single person with a rocket launcher getting behind and pretty damn near close to one. Could not simply fire a rocket at a joint and outright cripple it. BUT it turns out in a thousand years Humanity becomes MORE stupid. All the while a track vehicle would have better mobility and protection. Plus be far cheaper if we are to be real here. But thanks to BattleTech logic. Nope! Somehow a tank is more expensive for some reason. Well, some models of tanks. Not all. Still, I am nitpicking here. I do like BattleTech but you have to hate it to love it. All because you know they could do better.
