Battletech Lore - Wolverine Medium Battlemech

The Wolverine is a good skirmisher. The AC5 gives it a good long range jab, and the SRM 6 literally takes enemies apart when it closes with them. Still a bit weak in firepower, but very agile.

One of the 'Classic Trio', to go with the Shadow Hawk and Griffin. These 3 mechs formed the base line for all medium's to come. The Wolverine is a good all around Mech, but suffers from its lack of ammo. In a long battle, you go thru that AC5 ammo real quick. That's why I actually prefer the Griffin over the other two; the PPC comes in real handy when the ammo is gone.

Agreed that its ammo dependency makes it a bit vulnerable but its above average armour can make sure it survives shorter term engagements.

Never fielded Wolverines much. I liked the Griffin and also the Enforcer mechs. Packed a better long range punch, but at the expense of armor. Still had decent speed and maneuverability.

I have my Wolverine jump jetting around to draw fire and flank, which allows my Griffin to disgard its jumpjet in exchange of more headsinks and larger lasers, and with a Shadowhawk for close range projectile attack it is an ideal combination.

The Wolverine was one of the battlemechs from the tabletop game which helped to greatly solidify in my mind that hardcore sense of a mech being a military machine with its physical design and camo scheme. Along with a many other battlemechs it just screams WAR! Thanks GrimDark Narrator for a thorough always highly detailed polished video work :)

I have a request. Can you do one on handheld weapons? not like for people but for mechs. Aside from the hatchet man, some mechs carry guns in their hands but most don't and i've wondered why carry instead of just mount it? and what kinds of handheld guns can a mech have? A topic i don't think i've seen anyone do a video on yet.

Its been many moons since I read it but n some of the older 'mechs like the Wolverine, Phoenix Hawk (inner sphere variant), Griffin, Shadowhawk, and Stinger, with "hand held" weapons the 'mechs were sometimes preferred because they could be set up for either left or right handed mechwarriors by the 'techs. I believe this may be more effective in the melee weapon 'mechs like the Hatchman, Axman, No-Daichi, or Berserker. Ballistic weapons presumably would feed their ammunition from the arm or torso of the mech (can't recall which designs feed from where and my books are packed away) and energy weapons would feed from the central power plant in the center torso. Another GREAT benefit of the hand mounted weapon (if it's relatively easily detachable) is that following combat or in down time the 'mech with TWO hands can be used in construction, clearing debris, or assisting with search and rescue operations.

Got one of these in Hairbrained's Battletech computer game. Dropped the jump jets and added a SRM 4 and a SRM 2. Toss in some melee upgrades and it's nasty in urban combat. Just had to watch the ammo as I only packed enough missiles for ten salvos but Heartseeker has blown away many a mech.

A good 'aggressive' scout lance is one each Wolverine, Shadow Hawk, and Griffin with a Phoenix Hawk to chase down Wasps and Stingers. The amount of surplus heat sink capability means that you can modify this mech quite a bit.

I use the Q variant in mech warrior 5 for anything under 250 ton. It massively hits above its weight. I do love it.

@@richardvaldes3959 If you pick up the Beginner Box for the Table Top game, you get a Wolverine and a Griffin as miniatures. Those two, plus a double-sided map, some extra tokens, and quick-start rules for $20 US. Not a bad deal.

the clan Conjurer is a Wolverine IIC in everything but name due to the clan's history with the "not named clan" wolverine is pretty much a banned word for the clans so that's why it's not the wolverine IIC.

This mech replaced Glitch's Shadow Hawk. I loaded it up with an AC10 and LRM. It can really reach out and touch someone. Edit: if I were to pick up a Griffin would it be a better missile boat than the wolverine?

I think its among the best. There's arguably no such thing as THE best mech at something in Battletech, as there's very many variants and models built for similar purposes.

imo. Both SH & Griffin are faster. Wolv & Grif usually suffers from low firepower especially as 55 tonners. SH is more suited for melee. Grif is more suited for kiting. Wolv needs to stay in the middle. Trebuchet is better than Griffin.

But WVR is a tank compared th the other both and wit the Laser and SRM can dish out quite some punsh and stay cool while doing it, but if I would have the option I would prefer the Phoenix Hawk.

Long time but no. the SH is actually less agile. since it only has a jump of 3 compared to the Wolverine's 5. and its only edge is the LRM 5 wich is rather lack luster given your likely rolls on the cluster table.

I've never really liked the Wolverine despite its arguably decent characteristics. For a 55-ton mech it just feels too underarmed. There are both lighter and heavier mechs alike with comparable mobility and armor that have better loadouts in terms of weapons.
