​@@BigRed40TECH After re-reading the "Historical Operation Clondike"-Sourcebook I found the following about the Royal Exterminator EXT-4Db (found on Page 166): "EXT -4Db Exterminator: The Star League’s premier hunterkiller BattleMech became even more deadly and far less dependent upon supply chains with this model, which included significantly more armor and an upgrade to endo steel structure. Both the LRM and AMS were removed, while an extended-range large laser was mounted within the right arm. Two additional medium lasers were added-with all of these lasers remounted so each torso contained a pair. One additional double heat sink was also added to help manage the increased heat load." This means that the EXT-4Db has 1 Small Laser (Head), 6 Medium Laser (two in each Torso Part ...Left/Center/Right), 1 ER Large Laser (Right Arm), Endo Steel Structure, more Armor and one double Heatsink more (which brings it to eleven Double Heatsinks). The rest is Identical to the EXT-4D, which means NO Chameleon-Light-Polarisation-Shield and NO Null-Signature-Device. Which makes the Royal EXT-4Db a fast, relatively good armored and armed Brawler with Jump Capability...while vulnerable because of the XL-Engine it is not bad 😉. PS: This is confirmed in the "Record Sheets Operation Clondike" Sadly the Article about the EXT-4Db in Sarna.net is not up to date since there is only found this: "EXT-4Db - This Star League Royal version, first introduced in 2718, replaces the LRM-10 and anti-missile system with an ER large laser."

The Null Signature System is one of those things I’m surprised hasn’t made a comeback in modern designs. It has potential in a lot of roles and more flexibility than Stealth Armor.

Don't see the null sig much but The fed suns do use the chameleon light polarization shield on their scare crow design. A mech with a pretty similar mission profile of the exterminator in eliminating soft targets behind enemy lines.

@@kathilmechworks4895 We tested it out the CLPS has the least disadvantage compared to the other stealth systems. The Fed Suns probably didn’t add the Null sig system with their scarecrow because it’s a 40 ton mech and they probably didn’t have enough space.

There were never rules for it. None at all. By the rules, an Exterminator is just a very fast, very large Phoenix Hawk Take one up against a Cyclops (which I would expect to be a common target for an Exterminator) and see how you fare. Sure, you can run away, but unless the Cyclops is badly damaged you're not going to kill it. And most company and larger commanders have command lances SPECIFICALLY to help guard them from such threats. For taking down a temporary command post, a Locust would be a better choice... or artillery.

The cappies discovered an old SL production line on Victoria (what would later be known as Shengli Arms) that had null sig data/components. The capellans reversed engineered/invented stealth armor from this data.

@@Alex-pj8nz depends they all are give and take chameleon and null stack so you get a nice boost at long and med and you can still carry exotic armors , stealth armor cheaper and easier to deploy , void best used on machines you don't plan on moving much think urban mech in a heavy woods with smoke you could be standing right next to it with variable speed lasers a tar comp and not even get a hit while getting laughed at for the light show . They all have pros and cons it's just finding the right use for it

On paper its weapons loadout isn't that scary until it uncloaks and drives a dagger right into your back. This and the Scare crow are probably the last mechs I ever want to see in my back field. I just remember the dread Phelan Kell felt when he faced one on Tukkayid. Was a serious danger to him even using clan tech.

The EXT--6CS is by far my favorite. It retains the Stealth systems, swaps the LRM for a MLM7, finally the Medium lasers replaced with a light PPC and Medium Pulse laser in each arm. Very tricky to deal with this one.

I like this machine, despite how extreme it is. Best about systems like the Null Signatur System and Chameleon LPS is that they allow a pilot to dictate the time and place of the engagement. Which is something i like, because it allows one to fight at one´s own pace. Doesn´t have to be used as a head hunter. Artwork for the mech was thoroughly needing updating, and both the Alan Blackwell and Matt Plog versions look great IMO, the old ones were... ok-ish. Mostly.

The heat generated by this thing's stealth systems is hilarious. It explains why they went for Backstab rather than Sniper. Timing for the break into short range is going to be tight for the pilot, though the armour should keep it standing long enough for it to complete its dezgra purpose. I recall Kurita got their pet Nova Cats to try something similar with a light mech, before Yori Kurita had them all neutered. Dezgra is as dezgra does.

I remember my campaign in the 90's where I lucked into a 4D to replace my Crusader-S. May have lacked the stealth features but I used every trick I could to compensate. Controlling the terrain and where you engaged, I did so much more than I ever did with the venerable Crusader.

The Exterminator is what the Quickdraw wanted to be when it grew up. The 4C is a nasty machine to fight given its stealth technologies, but it definitely requires precise use. The 4D is an above average skirmisher that suffers from the lack of a knockout weapon, but meshes well with other fast movers in heavy cav lances like the Falconer, the Shadow Hawk 5M, etc. The rest of the variants are interesting, but not spectacular. I am surprised that the Clans never built a IIC version of the Royal Exterminator given Andery Kerensky's use of the mech.

Well, this is another blast from the past for me. Although this time for a very different reason, you arnt wrong about the reputation these machines had especially out in the Periphery were the jackboot of the SLDF hit hardest. During my time at Canopian Institute of War, they were still making cadets go over engagements with these things from back in the Periphery Uprising day and they lovingly recreated some of their biggest hits in the simulators. On the other hand, that reputation can very well work against you too. A couple years back a group of mercs screwed up a contract with House Liao bad, bad enough to have a serious bounty on their heads so they fled to the periphery to lick their wounds and decided to go bandit. One of their pilots had gotten his hands on a Exterminator, Lord and Lady only knows how. When word of that go out, the MAF hired a merc unit to deal with them. They wannabe bandits were barely a company with battle damaged machines. The Magistracy hired a merc regiment to drop on their heads and make sure that Exterminator died.

Considering the era and purpose of this mech, the Exterminator would of been the perfect candidate for a TAG system. A lance of medium sized hover tanks equipped with an Arrow-4 missile system that work as support for the Exterminator would give it the punch it needs to take out Assault mechs. Considering that a lot of battlefield commanders use a heavy or assault mech as a command platform, this would be a natural choice. Even against a command center it would allow the Exterminator to reliably destroy it in a single bombardment. All in all, the Exterminator put the combination of the Null system and Chameleon to good use. I think the ultimate use for the combination of technologies isn't for a mid ranged mech, but rather for a long range support mech. Being forced to take a -4 to hit against a mech that has multiple LRMs, PPCs or Gauss Riffles would be a nightmare.

There aren't enough 60-65 ton mechs that move like Wasps. The Exterminator is a really great mech, that makes a wonderful scout lance commander, and can be used better than a lot of lighter units, to get behind an enemy line for backstabbing and other shenanigans. I recently used one to charge a Clan Commando IIC, for good old fashioned Inner Sphere lessons in Hippity Hoppity 😂

The Exterimator is a a perfect mech for a Halloween Champaign. Just an ancient Mech that appears out of nowhere and destroys its victim before disappearing like the wind. Few thought it was an Assassin, but no Assassin is capable to just vanish so completely. It stalks its prey and lashes out. Destroying those that are in leagues of wronging its old long past masters. A story that is funny enough can be grounded in realism, but if we suspend our disbelief. A tale that would shake the most harden Mech pilot to their core. Mahahahahahahahah! *Thunder and Lightning sounds* Sorry...got into the spirit of this post.

Without the Chameleon Light Polarization System and Null Signature System the Exterminator displays the problems the Quickdraw does. Even with an Extralight Engine it still is mostly about the oversized engine, and heavy jump jets. For actual weaponry the Exterminator and its variants are quite lightly armed. A Headhunting mech is an interesting idea but since Commanders in Battletech are almost always in Battlemechs, or guarded by armies of them I dont think sending 1 stealth Exterminator would work. Im surprised that The Society didnt make a fully updated Exterminator as they had both the LPS and NSS parts available. Taking those and using better clan-tech weapon have helped a lot.

I think this is my favorite mech…the original version of course, not the downgraded one. No other mech like it. Granted, by the 31st century, most of these are either gone or shadows (pun) of their former selves, but it’d be interesting to partner it with a couple Hollander IIs mounting stealth armor and ECM.

Ah, the exterminator 4C, that 65ton 6/9/6 is a terrible bully to anything lighter than it, especially in melee, and very useful in objectives to go where it needs to go and take way more damage than something else with a 6/9 especially in earlier eras, huzzah. That said, that huge XL making it 19 million c-bills and that difficult to maintain quirk, ouch, even the 4D is a tall 15 mil. The mech you love to salvage, but not to buy.

Cyclops is poorly armoured, and much slower. While it's AC20 is frightening, the EXT can avoid that, stay at his flanks and rear, and quite possibly win.

I can say the Royal Variant (Large Laser instead of a LRM10) can core a Yu Huang. I remember I only attacked if I won Initiative, because I couldn't allow to be in Range of the AC. Attacked, overheaded and jumped away. And by the End the Yu Huang was cored by the medium lasers.

Little side comment, but the exterminator is horrifying in alpha strike, I have had multiple occurrences where the exterminator was the lone reason that all of the opposing mechs were destroyed

The weapons fit on this thing never made sense to me. If you are going for a close-range ambush/take-down, it should have had a heavy fitment of SRMs, maybe multiple large lasers or PPC. I'd say an AC20, but that would be unrealistic.

The Exterminator in the 2750 book is one of those "We just threw some random shit together and here is the fluff to cover our bases." Without all the special rules that came out since you go, yeah, it's fast, great, so is an Assassin and this is an improved, heavier Assassin. I can see it hunt lights and skirmish with mediums, but commanders tend to like big powerful mechs like an Atlas, Marauder or Battlemaster. And if it's somebody really high up they might have a Cyclops around to lend an AC/20 and they should have a bodyguard like a Thunderbolt or a Stalker. There should be a Rifleman to deal with flying threats and possibly a command lance etc. It's fast and can get in somebody's back in the 2750 version and it does wonders against vehicles. Advanced versions with the stealth etc are usually much better than the baseline version. Not a bad mech, but not really great for the fluff it's supposed to represent.
