The #Warhammer is one of the greats of the entirety of #Battletech, and it only feels right to give it its due. A steel juggernaut from the #StarLeague era, and one of the finest mechs in the #SLDF, this lord of war would never leave the #InnerSphere after its introduction. A ruthless warrior that fought under every house, this #Battlemech would be among the most frightening mechs in the entirety of the #Succession Wars.
It would also make its impact on #Clan society as they took them with them on their Exile, and eventually rebuilt it into a new version. It would be noteworthy for #NatashaKerensky, the #BlackWidow, of the #WolfsDragoons as well, piloting it while becoming the most feared #Mechwarrior in the history of the warfare.
It would see itself pitted against the #Clans during the #ClanInvasion, and it would see itself embroiled in the #FedComCivilWar, #DarkAge, and #Ilclan eras. Redesigned, refit, and prepared for new battles in every one of these conflict zones.
So, let’s go over the proud history of this Machine.

It was among the first Mechs I got to my Alpha Strike games. Although less impressive there compared to CBT, it remains a solid long-range choice in the Succession Wars era. A few have been destroyed during our games, but they rarely disappoint and tend to dish out more damage than they take. Most of the forces me and my friends deploy tend to have at least one Warhammer in there.

The Warhammer is easily my favorite mech in all of the franchise. In MW5, I almost exclusively run a WHM-6Rb unless drop limits and mission difficulty demand I run something smaller like a Centurion or bigger like a Mackie (Clan Invasion mod FTW). If I was suddenly isekai'd to Battletech in any era of the setting, I'd take a WHM model any day.

They are are a damn good choice for the line. And for being lighter armored, not as much of an issue, as it’s PPC’s will strip much on an enemies armor away at range, allowing the others to rip them apart at closer range, also I did crazy with it. Said PPC’s are cool, but what’s cooler? Binary L lasers, Clan MP lasers, Clan SP lasers, a 270 clan XL, double engine heat sinks, Clan machine guns, and Clan SRM 6…ferrofiberous, case for SRM ammo. Yeah…it’s silly, and probably one the most expensive WHM made, but hey each arm has the equivalent of an AC-20…with far greater range. And still slays things, while taking minimal damage, as lists of times, it’ll core or head shot mech’s just from the Binaries

*sigh* the WHM-6R Warhammer. In the DCMS we never had enough of them, and it always seemed those damned Fed Rats always had them.. and in spades. Even those treasonous Wolf's Dragoons had them. It was a formidable design it had a very glaring achilles heel. It's thin leg armor. I taught many of my younger pilots to go for that point... Avoiding straight up gun fights with them. Easier said than done.

The Warhammer is a very interesting heavy. It sacrifices armor for sheer firepower at multiple ranges. If you want an aggressive design, then the Warhammer is your mech. I like how the design punches big holes in a target, then has a host of crit seeking weapons. It possesses an average of 10 potential crits (average of 4 SRMs, 2 medium lasers, 2 small lasers and 2 machine guns). This makes the design an excellent dualist. Its PPCs and lasers also give it some endurance.

Hello Red. I have been a long time 'fan' of the Warhammer. Ever since beginning to play B-Tech in 1984. But, by 3055 and after, with the introduction of new technologies, the HWM series of Mechs become FAR more dangerous. My own favored design is the WHM-7-GL, WHM-7-GL (GL stands for Ghost Lions Legion). This Mech removes most of the weapons other than the ER PPCs to mount six ER Medium Lasers, a single SRM-6 with a ton of ammo, and TSM. With 17 IS-DSHS, it can dissipate 34 heat per turn, and that allows for both PPCs to fire and the Mech to jump 4 hexes, giving it a good long ranged punch and maneuverability. The six ER Med Lasers also generate 30 heat, so at close ranges the Mech and leap around behind foes and unleash a storm of laser fire into the opponent's Mech without issue. TSM added to the design helps in close combat, by doubling the damage available by kicking attacks at a foe's legs, doubling the already damaging 14 damage up to 28. Enough to rip off most Mech's legs with one kick. If the leg in question has already taken damage, such a kick and additional laser fire will almost certainly take the leg, causing the opponent's Mech to collapse. By designing the Mech to make the best use of its weapons heat loads, and balancing that with the heat for maneuvering the unit, the Mech rarely overheats in combat. Running cool with such a Mech is a 'minor' issue, but one that can cause surprise to an opponent that is thinking that in just a few more seconds, one's Mech will shut down. With 14 tons of standard armoring, a standard gyro, and an XL Engine, the Mech is well served for combat, even if the XL Engine is often thought of as a liability. Each Torso can sustain up to 4 PEQ before any real danger occurs (PEQ = PPC Equivalent damage total). Thus, the Mech gains 'long term' survivability on the battlefield. Another of its predecessor's weaknesses. All in all... I would stack the WHM-7-GL against any other Heavy Mech and feel confident that I would have a good chance to survive and 'win the day'. Against lighter opponents... I would pity them as I destroyed them. But, that's just my opinion.
@BigRed40TECH
@BigRed40TECH 2 жыл бұрын
I don't view the WHM-6R as a chore to pilot personally. Most mechs don't have full sinking capacity in 3025, and the WHM come very close. I don't think the Warhammer needs TSM either, as it's really not meant to be a melee mech, and most common variants of the Warhammer typically run a standard engine.
@franksmedley7372
@franksmedley7372 2 жыл бұрын
: Agreed, that the Warhammer is nearly balanced for heat sinks, but that constant -2 plus any movement CAN be annoying. So, by using 3055+ tech, one can improve its performance.

Yet another home run for the Reseen redesigns. The Unseen art looks pretty good, but then you see the new art it's "Yes! This is what a BattleMech should look like! This is what a BattleMech IS!" In the movie Soldier, Gary Busey's character has a great line (among several): "My daddy used to say, when you want to insert a nail into a piece of wood, don't do anything fancy or glamorous. Just grab a hammer and pound the son of a bitch until it's in." That's the Warhammer. Strap in, saddle up, weapons online, and blast anything that pops in your targeting computer until it stops moving. Pure brutality no matter where it is in relation to what needs to be deleted.

Seems like a lot of heat to boost range by +3 hexes with ER PPCs. I never understood, especially for a design made with bracket range systems, that the original PPCs were changed out at all. Could you imagine a production variant that upgraded to double heat sinks AND kept the original Donals? Drop it to 15 double heat sinks and add armor? The perfect inner sphere heavy mec, not very expensive and runs cool.

If you can get ahold of Wolves on the Border, it goes into more detail on the Dragoons/Kurita feud. As for them running SLDF Tech, they did on some Mechs; stating they had found them in a cache. As for Clan tech, they openly started using it after the 3050 announcement that they were from the Clans. Another good read is Wolf Pack, the Dragoons Civil War.

In the older lore, the Dragoons were the Clans' scouting force, and they used Inner Sphere tech with some "discovered" mechs in order to fit in. The Inner Sphere's forces took them at face value as a first-rate merc unit and never seriously questioned why the pilots were all so good, and why they never lacked spare parts, and why they had some unusually good mechs that were brought out when results mattered. Back in the day the revelation that the Wolf's Dragoons were actually Clan Wolf resulted in a lot of "Of COURSE they are!" reactions.

for me i do not see the Warhammer as a heavy generalist or brawler (like with Thunderbolt, Cataphract, Black Knight and Orion, due to its thinner armour) but as more as a Mech Fighter, meant for fighting and destroying enemy mechs rather then attacking general enemy forces and positions, and many lore elements such as the gunslinger, give it the image of a true duelist mech. the Clan Loki/Hellbringer i say takes the concept of it to its logical extreme of thin armour, more firepower then the sun, kill or be killed design philosophy (though to more mixed results).

I would be curious as to other mechs utilized by those aces,, but am I correct in that those two chasis made up the majority based on current lore? Also in my limited experience it seems the Warhammer is better multipurpose mech that can getb in & brawl when the opportunity presents itself vs the Marauder is better off as a true gunslinger staying at range & letting loose. It would seem Marauder vs Warhammer the Marauder woukd have a slight advantage assuming it can keep the duel at med-long range.

I think people are spoiled, most started playing in the clan era and forget the game really started in a fallen technology era, ie: 3025 when centuries of war has devastated entire world and the Tech is so degraded, getting a mech to even have all its equipment, armor and weapons as stated in TADOC is almost impossible outside of the core worlds. I didnt care for this mech when it was in the 3025 books because it ran so dang hot, getting Ferro on it and double heat sinks made it a terror on the tabletop, getting Clan er ppcs on it when I piloted it scared even me when I was in it because EVERYONE on the other team targeted it to get it off the table.

As Tex famously put it, its 'good enough'. They weren't trying to reinvent the wheel, StarCorp kept to the brief they were given and made a straightforward, rugged line animal, and they did a damn good job of it. It's the AK-47 of Heavy Mechs, its simple, effective, and keeps on kicking. You can see the beginnings of the Clan's favored design elements in the Warhammer: its built to be able to fight reasonably at any range, rather than being able to dominate at one range. Just like you'd want in the duels that are the core of Clan Warrior life, and just like you'd want in a line animal of a mech that forms the backbone of heavy lances. Tactical flexibility always has value.

I love the the Warhammer. There are too many variants to list, but Ill try. The 3025 WHM-6D is a solid tank of its era with heavy armor, an all-energy weapons loadout, and enough heat sinks to keep cool, though not going into Full Alpha Strike. The WHM-7A is a Royal model from the Star League era. It uses Double Heat Sinks to handle upgrading Extended Range PPCs, Pulse Lasers, and an Artemis IV system for its SRM launcher. The WHM-8M oddly has a Light Gauss Rifles in addition to its ER PPCs. This makes it a solid direct fire support model. The WHM-9D uses an Extralight Engine to increase its speed to 86kph, and mounts a Targeting Computer. This makes it a very fast heavy sniper battlemech. The WHM-9K is a Kuritan design, using Heavy PPCs instead of Extended Range PPCs. This results in decreased range and accuracy but greater stopping power. The typical SRM launcher has been upgraded to an MML-9, increasing its SRM salvo by +50%, and giving it some long range missile firepower. The WHM-10K uses new Ballistic-Reinforced Armor, greatly increasing this Warhammer's battlefield durability. WHM-11T is a Taurian model with 2 Snub-Noses PPCs, 2 Light PPCs, 2 ER Medium Lasers, an MML-5, and 5 Improved Jump Jets. There are several Clan-refits of the Warhammer. The improved clan-tech makes these models deadly despite being on an old chassis. Edit: Oddly none of the models think to use something like Medium Range Missiles or large Long Range missile pods. Upgrade that SRM-6 to an LRM-20. Maybe that would make it too much like a Thunderbolt?

The Warhammer is a serious opponent. Ideally it isn't used as an assault unit. Ideally it is a long range support mech. In such a role the moderate amount of armor the Warhammer has is adequate. When used as an assault mech the weapons package performs well, but it quickly becomes apparent that the Warhammer isn't armored enough to take on superior brawler designs. It isn't horrible in this role, which means many commanders will still commit the Warhammer to a close ranged assault against heavily entrenched defenders. Ideally a Warhammer should be deployed with other long range support mechs, where the Warhammer not only provides support fire but also acts as a bodyguard for other support mechs that don't fair well against medium and light skirmishers.
@BigRed40TECH

I think it's more about a layered approach personally. Even when its on the defense, the opponent is just ground down on the way in imo, making the WHM's armour seem stronger than it really is.

Warhammer is the original cover 'Mech of BattleTech with two big guns. But armor in original WHM-6R falls short, under that of lighter Crusader and Thunderbolt. In a fight with full lance of WHM-6R against full lance of TDR-5S, I bet on Thunderbolt. WHM-6D drops off the lightest weapons and SRM 6 in favour of more armor and heat sinks. I would gladly take WHM-6D along with Thunderbolt and Archer. Warhammer was also the 'Mech of choice for Bounty Hunter. He lost it against Natasha Kerensky, who took for herself. Bounty Hunter got Natasha's Maurauder in return. Bounty Hunter is BattleTech's equivalent to Boba Fett down to the green paint job. It is not well known who Bounty Hunter really is. Most likely he is embodiment of several different people, each dressed in same Star League era cooling suit, head and face covered under helmet with face plate/visor, and riding a green heavy 'Mech.

I started playing Battletech in 1988, so I remember the Unseen very well. Losing them was not a great issue for me then, or even really now. Here are my thoughts on the Warhammer: The Warhammer is not a favorite of mine in the Succession Wars to Clan Invasion era. Most variants are overgunned, underarmored, undersinked, and attempt to fufill every role with the exception of indirect fire support. The 6D, naturally, is the best of lot, reflecting FASA's tendency to grant Davion the best of all worlds. The Royal variants, the 6rb and the 7A are far closer to my idea of what a Star Leauge refit of the Warhammer should be. The 7M, 7S, and 7K all lack CASE, while only the 7K does anything to increase the Warhammer's second main weakness, its armor. Much of that has to do with FASA's hesitancy to engineer solid designs, which only makes the obvious drawbacks even worse. Personally, I think the Warhammer doesn't really come into its own until the Civl War/early Jihad era. The Project Phoenix refits finally give the Warhammer its fair due, while the adaptation of the New Dallas core allows for the proper Star Leauge era Warhammers to be released out into the universe once again. These Warhammers show the greatest amount of variation on the original idea, ranging from medium range IJJ equipped brawlers in the 10T, to the default 8D refit which enhances every aspect of the machine. The reimagined art from CGL is excellent, as are the Republic to IlClan era variants. The Warhammer C 3, as is usual for second or third iterations of a Clan refit, puts all the toys (Clan ER PPCs, DHS, XL engine, etc) into the ultimate form of the Warhammer at this time. The video is well done. I simply just don't have the reverence, nostalgia and love for the design.
