So, I'm halfway through the game. The good: the gameplay's varied. Battletoad difficulty is actually difficult, the humor's better than I was expecting, and this ended up being a better Battletoads TV show than the one we got in the 90's. And the animation's awesome. The bad: Despite the fluid animation, the art style sucks, I refuse to believe that former game programmers could be even *half* as utterly fucktarded as Zitz and Rash end up being throughout the plot thus far, and the Dark Queen looks like she spent the past 26 years working on her Shezow cosplay. Still a fun game.

yeah, people get hung up on the art style but to me something else looked off and it was the gameplay. Correct me if I'm wrong here, my impression of what made the game feel seem Off to me was that, the gameplay seems secondary to the fidelity of the animation. Does that sound about right? It wouldn't be the first game that did this and for a game like this, that's a very severe mistake to make in production that is almost impossible to fix .

Honestly, when this game first came out I wasn’t impressed with it, I was blinded by nostalgia & wanted a “pure” Battletoads game, but now looking at this game again I can see it’s charms, nice character designs, decent character development, fun gameplay (specifically the beat ‘em up sections), good cutscenes, legitimately good jokes, I can see how I die hard Battletoads fan might not consider this game to be for them, but I can at least say this isn’t a bad game in the slightest

Seems odd that it wouldn't considering it's the same characters, there's hover bikes, there's platforming, beat em up sections. Imo it's just the art style that's different. Everything else feels very similar. I actually like how tight the controls feel here. Having played the 90s games, one issue I always had was how slow the fighting felt. This fast-paced approach suits them so much better and now the toads have actual personalities.

This is actually really well animated. I wouldn´t mind watching this as a series (which probably is what they should have done instead with Animation on that level). Don´t know about the gameplay, but artistically speaking, the negativity does not seem warranted. (the Jeff bit was a bit childish of them, admittedly, but saying it is "ugly" or voice acting is bad is just not true)

When I saw that the Dark Queen got the usual social justice treatment of being... drastically redesigned, lets say... I feared the worst. I must say though that I'm pleasantly surprised. The original Dark Queen lacked depth while this one actually has character--I'd argue that it's not mutually exclusive... but whatever. If they must be mutually exclusive, I'd prefer character anyway. So kudos.

To be fair, the older games were done before cut-scenes and dialogue. There's reason to believe if this game followed the look of the original the Toads and the Dark Queen wouldn't have had personalities in cut-scenes and such too.
