Another great live stream. I just used your videos on replacing the exaust manifold and the one on cleaning the mounting surface for the gasket helped tons and jeep started up on the 1st try. Thanks again for all the videos.

Great job Dale , I thought it was going to fight you more than it did. Here is a helpful tip for you if you install a transmission again , Get 2 bolts the same size as the transmission bolts but about 4 inches long , cut the heads off of them and cut a slot in them for a standard screwdriver. Screw them in the block on one on each side and use them as guide pins. The transmission will slide right over them and right into place . Hope this helps you out for next time. I have seen in the past many times where some one starts the bolts in like you did and the spines of the input shaft were not lined up with the clutch disc and bent the disc . At least you didn't go ape shit on the installation of the bolts Ha Ha . Take care and be safe my friend .

I usually found when rocking the transmission as the tail end goes up the Bell housing goes down. You may try using the floor jack to keep the bell housing from dropping

Hey Dale! I have decided to install a new clutch kit in my family's 1989 YJ. As a reliable source of information in order to do the job right, I've been following the Haynes manual dedicated to this model and also your videos, which are not only clear and fun but also inspiring and motivating for the DIY home mechanic, like me. Thank you! All the best from La Mesa, Colombia!

Dale, the one suggestion I would have is to lose the exhaust when doing these kinds of projects. I've done a bunch and whatever it takes to get the exhaust out the way is worth it. One other, you probably know. Unless you have a complete stainless system, which I am doing now, use brass nuts everywhere on the exhaust. They will never rust on. Your films are great always something to learn. Thanks

Dude! This video was so helpful. I was replacing the clutch on my TJ by myself and got to the point where I was guiding the transmission back to bolt up and couldn’t get it the last inch or so. While I was taking a break (rethinking life choices 😅) I came across this video. Threads caught and bolted right up just like I saw here! Thanks for the really great video.

Hey I just wanted to let you know that I have been watching a lot of your videos ever since I purchased my 95 YJ (My kids named her SR-95 "Shiny Red 95")... Anyways, I just wanted to thank you for making these amazing videos. As you know, there's always something to do on these things, but I'm pretty sure that I have used your videos on almost everything that I have fixed. Thank you again for taking the time to do this, it helps the community out so much... Especially the coolest Jeep drivers who own the YJs! 🤣

Thanks so much for your videos Dale, you’re an absolute legend, I’m in Australia so my Tj is right hand drive, your videos are really informative and inspiring, I’m just in the process of doing my water pump and thermostat housing but after finding your videos I want to pull out the motor and rebuild it like you have done, after my radiator blew a hole in the top tank I got to see how much the previous owner neglected the motor and I’m inspired by you to rebuild, thanks again for the awesome videos. P.s I just signed up on your patreon too

Try to rotate the Trans input shaft to align with the clutch disc.
@steffenmanderla7631
@steffenmanderla7631 4 жыл бұрын
Careful when using the trans bolts to pull it into place as you can warp and damage both the clutch disc and or the bell housing.

It slipped in fairly easy. But yes may have to rotate the disc a bit 👍🏼

@@JeepSolid Yeah I hear ya. Thanks for all these videos though, I just bought a YJ about 5 months ago and I have been using a lot of these to do the work myself on it. So far I've done, the rear pinion seal, radiator, water pump, thermostat, front crank seal, changed transmission and diff fluids (and oil of course) oil pan gasket and rear main seal. So your videos have helped me a lot.

Hi Dale, great videos as always. I had a problem with my 90 yj. When I drive it for 15-20 min the driver's side front tire locks (especially when turning). I jacked it up and it wouldn't turn easily, but the passenger side one turned smoothly. The weird part is when I haven't driven it for a day (so when everything is cool), it turns easily but as it warms up the problem arises. Do you know what the problem might be? Thanks!

What if you start all over and clone yourself? Then you could have a light and camera operator and a second pair of hands to help with the transmission. Or grow a tail to reach things?
