Snyggt Niklaus! Gunnar pratar även om Marc Sedotti`s weight balance system. En tung fluga får sitt eget momentum istället för att förlita sig på fluglinan att bära den hela kastet. Ska definitivt testa denna. Tack 🙏

Hello Niklaus, have seen your Sørøya Halibut video a couple of hours ago. The effort, you and Paolo put into this was absolute mind blowing and inspiring. I have a question on the flies you both used. As I have seen, it looks like a beefed up version of the Bottom Bouncer. Is there a chance, that you will make a tutorial of the hook, tail und split lead setup? Do you use a different hook pattern for the „Halibut“ Bottom Bouncer, and how do you ty the 2x4gr/2x5gr leads to the hook shank? Would like to retie this fly, to catch big Coalies, Pollock and, of course, Halibut🍀 in and around the island of Hitra in 2024. Any advice is highly appreciated. Please keep up the good work and effort you put into fly tying and your videos/tutorials. Rgds Axel

When casting these flies, make sure you use the correct technique and also check your rod from time to time due to rodparts loosing up and can brake. How do I know this? Well, first I didnt cast them as you should and secondly I didnt make sure my rod was compressed with every piece.

Hello Niklaus, You say, that "most pike flies weigh 4 to 5 gram anyway". I disagree with your conclusion. First of all your fly then obviously adds up to 8 to 9 gram since the split shot comes on top. Huge difference between 4 and 8 gram flies. I make my living on teaching fly fishing for pike and most of my clients catch their pike on flies much lighter than 4 to 5 gram. In many waters there is no need for such heavy flies, but there is a need for very light flies at times instead. If casting a 4 to 5 gram fly is easy or not, depends on the line weight one is using. My number one line is an 8wt. line. Yours might be an 11 or 12wt. line though. That's very different and supports both casting such heavy weights and spooking a lot of fish (pike) in quite some situations. I have fished flies 1 to 5 gram for years on Zander. There is an easy and 10 times more flexible solution in adjusting to the situation available: It's called Cheburashka. That makes one fly being adjustable to ALL situations. Of course I shall add a warning to everyone: Such heavy weights easily knock out fly rods or whatever they hit! That aside, nice tying. Regards Bernd

Well, I guess that you don't fish with a live transducer neither, that's what this fly is designed for. And it's easily casted with a 9 or 10 wt. It's nice to have options and try to progress, instead of doing what everyone else have already done for ages. Regards Fly Dressing

I have used live scope, too. As soon as the water has current (rivers for example) and/or the boat has drift, 4 or 5 gram is way too little for proper contact. Here on river Elbe (where I live) the top spin fishing experts use 20 to 30 gram (sometimes even more) on 0,08mm close to zero stretch lines in order not to miss most takes. Since I want to fly cast, my limit of max weight obviously is much below such weights. On an 8 wt. fly line 4 to 5 gram is possible, but the weight overtakes the line at some point. Any more weight and fly casting gets pretty ugly. I agree, it's great to experiment on one's own. I did that for over 400 days 8h a day to then figure out, that the perfect solution was already invented in those Cheburaskas. I assume KZbin tying vids are exactly for those who don't have time to figure things on their own... :). Anyway maybe it's worth testing Chebus for you, too. Using live scope mostly means not much room for casting anyway (fish are more near and down) and below 5 gram we miss many takes from the boat often until we strip very fast to set the hook for an undetected take. Seen spinfishermen outcatching fly fishermen many times on boats (for pike). Remove the boat (wading) and it's precisely opposite. If we fish for uneducated pike not spitting the fly, things get easier, but still we miss the takes very often.
