What evidence is there that a stiffer one-piece outsole is better performing? Is it purely a marketing buzz word or is there solid info that acceleration etc is improved? It seems strange that Bauer haven't decided to use the one-piece boot on any of their skates yet and even CCM are relatively new to it considering Easton were using it like 10 years ago and Verbero also have been using it before CCM. I work with a pro team and usually pick gear up from them rather than buying retail and it's interesting that the pros do away with a lot of the fancy features on retail skates - they usually have very plain black liners that are not these really advanced liners and they all seem to get the flexible tendon guards sewn onto the boot with extra material to stop them bending! And a lot of them get custom tongues that are much smaller than these retail ones, they're really short and are much thinner sometimes with no lace bite pad, just felt and leather

Sorry but I disagree. True skates started as a one man show in Winnipeg VH skates. He proved to NHL players that the one piece custom boot felt better and performed better. He was a world class speed skater that made his own skates and eventually for other Olympic teammates Fast forward to today and the big name manufacturers are doing the same. The technology is true. If you play like me, maybe you don’t need the ultimate in technology but my lower end of the high end skates absolutely make a difference. Things evolve. kzbin.info/www/bejne/p4q0aZ5seb6riKc

Bauer makes the best skates simply put
@charlie9ine4 жыл бұрын
Chicano Enforcer No, they don’t. The firs time I realized that you could skate pain free was when I switched from Bauer to CCM. That was years ago. Now the skate manufacturers are producing lines for different feet. Even providing custom builds. No knock on Bauer. They make great gear but... after playing for years, and I mean years, the only Bauer product I have is my hockey bag. It’s a really good bag.
@charlie9ine4 жыл бұрын
Eoin Kirwan I agree with you.I’m not going to even get into it with someone who has been on the front lines. I’ve always thought that perhaps the top end skates catered to the top end players. I’m okay but any career aspirations passed me by 30 years ago. That doesn’t mean I don’t still love to play and I still like to play with the best gear. A one piece skate is pretty cool... for Connor and all elite players. The trickle down is that regular guys like me can skate on the low end end of the high end skates and notice the difference. For me I get the inside of the boot that is at the high end (CCM Jetspeed 480 EE). That means my fit and feel is great. I’m can slap on some Step Steel and play as good as I’m ever going to.
@MCgrease084 жыл бұрын
I would have liked to see more comparison to the fit of each. Heel lock, room in the toe box, width, etc. Obviously it's personal fit, but I have tried on a few of the newer CCM models and found the heel lock feature much too tight in the Tacks and Jet Speed lines. I have yet to try the Ribcor models.

I can’t believe the ground CCM gained, when I played 15 almost 20 years ago it was Bauer skates or bust. You’d see guys decked out in full ccm gear but get down to the skates they were always Bauer. Or at least had tuuk holders on them. Maybe Bauer just became stagnant.

Stiffer skate when you buy it on the one piece boot. The boot breaks apart over time. I am skating on AS1 for 2 1/2 years now and the boot is getting soft on some areas. I guess the pressure and continuous ice time started to crack some of those fibers.

Whats the difference between the vapor and jetspeed in regard to forward attack angle? How are the 2 skates pitched? Neutral, forward? Thanks
@nathanvault15244 жыл бұрын
The step steel deal ends in October so you really can't count that, and Bauer skates have all that extra stuff for comfort, ccm shreds down all the weight, but it reduces foams which kills comfort, the weight the xs holder rattles even when tighten all the way, and I've seen them blow apart from blocking shots, and the one piece boot kills people with wider feet. The only reason ccm switched to 1 piece boots because there outsoles sucked. I tried on 2xpros as1s ft2s and 2spros, and the Bauer both had way more comfort and the weight differences was negligible, bought 2s pros and love them I skate 7 times a week AAA level. When you skate every day the comfort reigns supreme over the 5 ounces lighter and that is why a majority of nhl players are in Bauer skates
@charlie9ine4 жыл бұрын
Nathan Vault CCM bought Step Steel so the deal doesn’t end. Not for the high end skates. Step has been the only aftermarket blade that I would recommend. They do make a difference
@charlie9ine4 жыл бұрын
Nathan Vault I had the same experience in reverse. I played elite hockey for a few years and had Bauer’s supremes custom fit. Great skates but I didn’t realize you could skate pain free until I switched to CCM. Feel and fit has improved a lot but feet are really different. On the performance scale I don’t see a difference between Bauer and CCM. Still you have to find the fit that is perfect for you. Brands don’t really matter. When you find the skate that you don’t notice when you’re playing. Jackpot!

@user-gromozeka4 жыл бұрын
Actually, the CCM is not a one piece boot. Internal outsole, quarter package and toe cap and it's a three pieces boot when the True makes a unibody construction, so the energy transfer should be much better than the CCM, isn't it?

Tendon guard on FT2 has a big quality issue in my experience. On the elite team I am affiliated with in Norway we have three players who the last season used the FT2's. All three pairs has cracks in the transition from top edge to the tendon guard. One pair was replaced on warranty from CCM. All three pairs was brand new when season 19/20 started. On our elite team at least 7 players use the Vapor 2X Pro and I can not say that we have had any quality issues with them.

I play mens league and have FT490s and they have cracked after about a year of playing 1-2 times a week. I love my CCM gear and I’m probably going to switch to Bauer Vapors soon. The tendon guards are also terrible they break down and have no stiffness anymore.

Why do ccm guys in the nhl wear ccm skates with tuuk holders if the xs holder is so "superior"?
@cjmixer994 жыл бұрын
Great video! I’ve recently tried a couple Bauer skates (X-Shift Pro and X2) and found each had fitment issues with my foot. I always had to punch out in certain areas, but the X2 skate had a really tight toe cap and causing severe pinky toe blistering. I couldn’t punch out the toe cap, so I was left to just endure it. I then recently picked up my first pair of TRUE skates... And man what a difference. Don’t think I’ll ever go back. They’re a little heavy, but with the new TF9 skate I’m sure it’ll be only better. Thanks again for the video! Great stuff. Cheers.

I think you are overrating CCM‘s 1 piece construction... For example 70% of the NHL players are using Bauer skates... Connor McDavid, one of the speediest skaters, is still using the old Jetspeed Skate.. which is a 2 piece construction... and about the holder, they have to develope this as well before it has a chance to become somewhere near to standard because I had dozens of XS holders in my hands and in every single one the runner had a tiny wiggle room, even tough the screw was totally tightened...
@nathanvault15244 жыл бұрын
Preach, 1 piece boots can only do so much, the 2 piece is so much more comfortable for me the 1 piece are just always too narrow, and I don't like the xs holder, I saw a kid block a shit with it and it blew apart and he was done for the game, also the step steel deal ends in October so after that back to the mediocre xs steel

The one piece boot, along with the recent addition of Step Steel, and quick change runners are what sold me.

Going through all the points made: Steels, CCM Custom skates will have the Step Steels in but not off the shelf models. Bauer Steel > CCM Steel Holders, CCM is just better The outsole, the vapor range is meant to be more flexible so saying a 1 piece gives better stiffness compared to that skate doesn't make sense, However, a 1 piece is lighter Thes rest of the video is all opinion and the whole video as a whole is poorly done. By the way Vapor 2x Skates are what 30% of players in the NHL use and FT2 is only 7%

The more padded your footbed is the more energy loss your gonna have per stride. And it always seems like that is such a selling point . If you want 100% energy transfer than remove the foot bed completely. I would rather have comfort than the .001 percent energy loss of a padded foot bed . I tossed the originals and put gel soles in. 10x better.
