I have lived in Japan for 14 years (10 while serving in the Military in Yokosuka/ Misawa and the last four as a civilian). Watching this video brought back all the memories of my first year in Japan. I feel your pain... you'll get use to it and become second nature. However, in my first year there was no such thing as smartphones I could use for maps or translation. Also, Japan is about 80% a cash country. Good luck this season and keep the videos coming.

@@Tward2929 Japan is slowly moving toward pay apps and the younger generation is using. However, older people stay away from these and pay with cash. Bills are common to get direct pay from bank accounts, but we have to pay the transfer fee along with the total due on some bills. When paying for bills that are not direct pay, we get the bill in the mail and pay at covenant stores. These transactions take only cash. Small Mom and Pops shops are cash only. Big chain stores and clubs have moved to pay apps, credit cards along with cash. While other places require a minimum Y10,000 ($100 US) purchase before using a credit card. Also, the pre paid train pass cards (like Trevor's PASMO) can be use at some restaurants, drug stores and most vending machines. CASH is still KING in Japan... for Now!

@@Tward2929 The major reason why cashless payment does not penetrate is that counterfeit bills are difficult to circulate. Holograms are used for Japanese money, and the only technology in the world is used, so the credibility is extremely high. There are also reasons why it is not so popular because there are many elderly people and there is no need to move to cashless as counterfeit bills are circulating like in China.

So much respect Trevor. I lived in Japan for 6 years and followed Yoshi Tsutsugo as a Baystars fan while I lived there. So stoked that you've chosen to play there as well. I'm back in the states now (and still tracking Yoshi and hoping he gets called up to the Rangers soon) but now that you're playing in Yokohama, I'm going to be rekindling my passion for the Baystars as well. When they awesome Japanese crowd makes a chant for you, you should definitely post a video about it. Yoshi's was my favorite of all time.

I lived in Japan for three years. The fanaticism for baseball is amazing. The stadium atmosphere is like a college football game in the U.S. They replay games on TV in their entirety the following morning in case you missed it the night before.

This is the first time I heard about you Trevor and immediately made my research. I don't care what happened to you in MLB and I think you are better off without them, you are an innovator and I admire that you want to be the best version of yourself. I am not Japanese or American but a fan of the game. I love it when Japanese baseball fans know you and had their pic taken, Google translate is a big help for me the first time I was there. I had a blast watching your vids and I would love to see you show us Japan and your experience in the coming future. Continue doing what you are doing and I hope you do better there in the Japan League and there is nothing wrong with starting over. Good luck in Japan and I am looking forward to hear good things from your new carreer.

Thank you for doing these vlogs I think they are really amazing and it’s a pleasure to see how greatly loved and appreciated baseball is over there in Japan and how much a talent such as yours is celebrated over there. Baseball players are super hero’s there and guys like you should be celebrated and I wish it was like that here in the US. Thanks for this POV and I’ve been and will continue to cheer you on

Thanks for the update. Congrats on this new chapter in your life. Now I need to figure out how to follow your new team. I’m an American expat living in the Philippines for the next few months and then I’m going back to the states with my new (3 yrs) Filipina wife. I’ve been here 4 years and married a woman here who checks all the boxes bc there are virtually none back home. Anyway I’m a big fan of yours and MLB will not survive without players like you, Ohtani, Trout and Judge. MLB needs excitement in the game. Good luck Trevor.

I remember being stationed at Camp Fuji and having to learn how to ride the JR lines. It challenging at first but once you learn it, its a really efficient way to get around. Hope you have great success in Yokohama. Wish you the best Trevor!

I lived in Japan for a few years while in the military. This brings back so many memories of arriving there and trying to figure things out. Just getting through the airport was a massive challenge. It’s a completely different culture and language so doing anything becomes daunting. Getting a house, a license, a car, etc…..didn’t miss any of that. I miss Japan. It’s a lovely country with lovely people. The culture is amazing. Everything is fast paced, but efficient. I would go back in a heartbeat.

I don’t know anything about baseball, but I enjoyed your vlog through the first few days of Japan. Japan is awesome! It’s super overwhelming at first, but you’ll get use to it in no time. The Japanese train network is super confusing… and that’s why there’s Google Maps. It’ll tell you how to get there, which train to take, when to get off, and where to exit. And convenience stores… (7-Eleven, Lawson’s, and FamilyMart) are lifelines. International ATMs, food, drinks, and pretty much everything else you might need… and they are EVERYWHERE! A little piece of advice. Try to learn a little Japanese and some of the characters. Tokyo and Yokohama and the other big cities… You totally can get away with not speaking any Japanese. But from personal experience, your time in Japan won’t be as fulfilling unless you learn and use a little Japanese.

This is gonna be one of the BEST sport vlogs - Ever. Please bring Sim over with you too. It would also be cool af for Trev to hire/mentor an orphan Japanese kid @ 10-11 years old to help him out with everything. Like Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom 's Short Round or Hamchunk from the movie "Green Berets". Trev could really turn that into a "be like Mike" Air Jordan campaign. Would definitely be one of best things in the sports world. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
