Woodturning : An Interesting Combination of Wood and Resin👍

An interesting project by combining small pieces of precisely cut wood.
The wood species used are sipo and white ash, the whole is cast in pearly green epoxy resin.
In this video I use a silicone mold of my own design and realization in order to optimize and save resin.
The finish is provided by carnauba wax.

Hello. A handcrafted job. Clean and correctly executed. Edited with a lot of feeling and a great overview. And overall a good idea as far as the arrangement of the wooden parts is concerned. But the design: That shape that curves inward in the top third, sorry, but that always reminds me of a bedpan in a hospital. Strange, there are a number of beautiful ways to shape the outside of a bowl, why do so many wood turners choose this horrible variant? Forgive my personal criticism, thanks anyway for the video and the work. Greetings from the north of Germany.

That piece of sipo you used for the base was a beautiful piece of wood. And of course in your hands it became even more so. First question - do you have some mad math skills that you are able to calculate how many pieces to cut to fit your project? Next what is the difference between the two glues you use? I know one is standard wood glue but what is the clear one and how do you determine which to use? Lastly, I have always heard sand with the grain but your pieces look fantastic no matter what. Thanks, Morgan, for leaving in the ribbons. 😉! 🫣me when you were doing your 3D work inside the bowl hee hee!

Enaid Indeed to make a piece like this, I have to calculate each small piece of wood then I glue them temporarily with cyanoacrylate while waiting for the final gluing either with resin or with vinyl glue.

Great job. The small errors caused by slight misplaced blocks merely enhance the beauty of the piece. If we insisted on perfection then everything would be made by computer and robots. Very nice! My biggest fear would be going to all that work and then it crack, chip, or I cut to far and ruin it! I turn pens and have had a piece break or chip out and have to start over, frustrating.

Thank you very much for your comment Emily❤️ To cut the small pieces of wood I draw a plan and I calculate all the sections. Then I use cyanoacrylate glue to hold the pieces temporarily while waiting to glue them definitively with resin or vinyl glue.

Beautiful piece! One question though: @6:12 when you start pouring. Why don’t you put an empty cilinder in the middle? You”ll need less epoxy, saves you money, fumes I mean, it’s will be removed for at least 90% right? Just my thought on it. But as said, really stunning piece you made here!
