It was so awesome seeing my girlfriend moved to tears by this movie. We went together and before the movie she was worried that it might not show the right amount of respect to her Polynesian culture, which means so much to her and is such a part of who she is. She was moved to tears several times by this movie, and leaving she told me how happy she was with how respectfully they treated the source material. Also she talked about how happy afterwards she was with Moana herself being a strong, passionate, intelligent, beautiful girl and that she is truly a great example to her younger nieces and all young Polynesians. Also just the fact that this felt like a Disney movie, that yes it was made for everyone to enjoy, but also particularly for her, to just a see Disney "princess" that looked like her and represented her culture on screen for the first time ever. I just found it really moving and adorable.

bo hamburgers I'm happy that you and your gf had a some quality time together through this movie. I can share with you this, what make hawai'i so SPECIAL is not only its tropical 🌴 paradise setting(which really looks like how it is in movies) but the PEOPLE! In Hawaii more then 90% of "Locals" has mixed cultural backgrounds and what connects us Together is the Respect we have for another and the Spirit of Aloha that resides here! No matter if your Polynesian or not, Being humble, Caring For the land you live on, and taking care of others really is important in life and you can really feel through this movie. Glad you like it and just fyi, I'll be posting more blogs and videos of My Life Here in Maui. You guys should check it out! Aloha and God Bless You & your gf!

My best friend is Cook Islander and Maōri and the other of my best friends are from Fiji 🇫🇯❤️💕🥰 my besties bf is Samoan 🇼🇸 so I was glad knowing all the pasifika kids I taught in Sunday school would see themselves represented in more than just Lilo and Stitch, especially since they aren't just Hawaiian 🌺.

Hope you can post a reaction to the whole film! From what i can see Disney did their research. This summer, the Polynesian Voyaging Society's Hokule'a was in our Chesapeake Bay (didn't get to meet her, sniff!), and I have been following her website/facebook pages, as well as having read Hawaiki Rising. There were a lot of things in the film that echoed what I read and what I'd seen in several documentaries. I hope this gets lots of folks interested in the history, culture, music, and wayfinding of Polynesian peoples. I loved the look of the background characters! Varied, beautiful and real.

Loved the video and all the interesting info after the reaction ended, you're really nice people. I'm from South America but I basically devoured Salgari's books when I was younger (they're mostly set in Java, Borneo and the sort) and from there I expanded my knowledge on Polynesia, Nordic countries and many other cultures. I always love to see any type of non mainstream cultural representation done right and I'm forever in love with this movie

I think the movie should be available in any polynesian language, it would make for a more immersive experience
@Kadukunahaluu Жыл бұрын
I think it should be inclusive to Melanesians and Micronesians. Sure, they're both different from Polys and to each other, but all three of them, regardless of the slight differences, are all Pacific Islanders. Hearing the movie dubbed in Chamorro would be such a surreal experience, and I'm sure Melanesians and Micronesians alike would have a similar feeling for their language being in the movie
@LoutubeHi Жыл бұрын
I agree. Polynesian, Melanesian, and Micronesians are all family. I think colonizers are the ones that separated them by naming them according to what they discovered. Other then that we are all 1! 💯🤙🏾😎🔥🇳🇿🇲🇭🇦🇸🇫🇯🇼🇸🇹🇴

Ok so, I think we just need more movies, animated or live actors, from areas of the world that we don't tend to see very many movies set in... Like Africa, Central and Northern Asia, Russia, the Mid East, Southeast Asia, the Andes Mts., and Polynesia. We have a lot of Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Indian (Bollywood), European, and obviously, Anglo-American movies, plus SOME movies set in Latin America and Australia/New Zealand... There is the "Survivor" element to the Pacific Isles in places, good for tv series like "Lost"... Also there are romantic qualities, the James Bond thing, the Gilligans Island thing, of course the LDS and Christian media, Johnny Lingo, etc., but there could be more historical drama and fantasy, etc., like in Moana. Maybe Samoans and Tongans have to put aside some differences to deal with a foreign tribe that has moved into some islands nearby, that have peculiar, more warlike/even evil customs, etc. Maybe a sci-fi bent to a similar story (aliens in the Pacific?)... Plus there is Papua New Guinea, the Philippines, Malaysia, and Indonesia, for various settings... I have never seen a move set in Indonesia or Malaysia... I've heard mixed reactions about Moana. I just want to see more movies that are set in more areas of the world, rather than Europe/Anglo-America/Australia/NZ, East Asia, and India...

Yes it’s been long over due and with all the great fighters coming out of Hawaii I’m surprised that we still haven’t had an UFC event yet. moana is tahiti
@LoutubeHi8 жыл бұрын
Aifa Langomazino Right, Her name is Tahitian, but she is created as a Character of the Samoan Descent. Her full name in the movie is "Moana Waialiki" which Moana in Tahitian means Ocean(I believe) and Waialiki was to mean water king in Hawaiian. However, Wai is water but aliki doesn't mean king in Hawaiian. Ali'i means king. But at the end of the day, Disney would not give a specific answer to what Moana's Bloodline would represent but with her Mother, Father, and Grandmother appearance in the movie it was clear to me that she was Samoan raised on an island of All the Polynesian culture put together(including Tahiti).

+Straight Outta MAUI Iaorana 'e Kaoha ki a kotou no Tahiti Nui ānei, i think he say Moana is tahitian because in the story we polynesian ancestors stop to travel around the island and the exactly position when polynesian stop to travelling is Tahiti( and Ra'iātea, Taha'a, Poporā, Huahine..) and after a long time they continute to travel in Rapa Nui, Hawai'i, Aotearoa, Mangareva.. Good job guys so happy to see people preserve we culture ! Mauru'uru 'e te aroha ia rahi to te fenua no Hawai'i
