Unrelated but I thought Abubakar would’ve made a great Black Panther in the new 1943 game. Also thought that he was the narrator in Disco Elysium

Unpopular opinion : IF just, IF ubisoft never mention "Historically accurate" and not trying to change the Japanese history forcefully by writings article and editing Wikipedia this whole problem could be avoided.

I do agree with him. The problem is that Ubisoft has created an atmosphere where people hate them so much that genuinely hateful and racist comments go under in a cacaphony of critique towards the company. We have to direct our anger towards the people choosing to force in random diversity rather than the minority that is being used by them.

The problem is, with the question "why" is that this rigidness in who can get cast for what, came from POC demanding their own representation if certain stories from cultures are being made. To now say "Oh but anyone can play anything" after all that, shows it was really just about targeting white people. And now that this offends the Japenese people, who were excited for their culture to get a chance, and then getting a hip-hop background music black character to take on that role, doesn't feel fair to them. That's why people are against it. Like, what do you want?

The fact that he’s the voice of Bayek while being the ceo of the company that made that Zau game-gaslighting gamers for not buying the game, makes me appreciate that AC origins became the origin of Ubisoft’s downfall lol

Uh no. Origins skyrocketed sales.

Damn, words about game as weapon are pretty much on spot. Ubisoft games are so sterilised to be perfect mass product

Yasuke is just a John Henry type character.

As someone who has only ever played one Assasin's Creed game. I really hope Shadows turns out well, the only place I am concerned is with Ubisoft and their greed, $110 to play it on time is wild

Well well well ... They keep going on damage control over and over

There's something wrong with you to pay $100+ for a game...

I understand Abubakar’s stance, but the comparison between Bayek and Yasuke is just flat out wrong. For one, Bayek is culturally and ethnically Egyptian. Yasuke on the other hand, is a foreigner in Japan. The man is neither culturally nor ethnically Japanese. And despite this, he walks around Japanese towns donning full Samurai armor, hacking and slashing ethnic Japanese to the tune of American hip hop music. This is a total joke and cultural appropriation at its finest. Ubisoft might as well have made William Adams a protagonist in the game, since he was also another historical figure who was at least confirmed to be a samurai. But we all know Ubisoft would never do that, because the idea of a white protagonist in a game set in Sengoku era Japan would cause public outcries of racism.

Great clip. I really appreciate the nuanced take being offered here. I truly believe that good games will sell well, regardless of the critics, user scores, or comments from randos.

BLM was the only reason Yasuke was created! Ubisoft confessed that! The original protagonist was a Japanese man with a Naoe

Look, this is the way I see it. Ok, Yakuse isn’t Japanese, but at least he isn’t being portrayed by a white guy. At least Naoe and Yakuse are being voiced by actors from where the characters they are playing are meant to be from. Yasuke, voiced by an African actor from Zimbabwe, and Naoe, a Japanese actress. This situation could’ve been soo much worse.

I am AC fan and I don't find it bold or interesting at all when a black guy who was never a samurai goes around Japan slaughtering Japanese people, I find that actually very stupid and offensive. so i don't know what he is talking about, clearly it should have been a white guy or japanese huy, because white people and japanese people actually have been samurais
