Actually they're right, he is not a natural right back but a cdm. He played his whole youth and the beginning of his professional career at central positions. Only after the retirement of Lahm, Ancelotti put him at the right. 20 years ago player selection was really important, now teams only care about formation. Player selection of picking Dier means he will sit off and allow shots which means conceding goals.
