Strangely enough, your two complaints about this course are two more things I love about it. As far as the music goes, I don't like most of the soundtracks given to the Tour city courses. When Amsterdam was new, it was the lone exception to that rule. Between then and now, we've also gotten Athens and Madrid, with Madrid becoming an instant favorite on the music front (the only Tour city course to do that, at least for me, as even Amsterdam's music needed a day or two to grow on me). Then there's the final section. To me, that was more of a "get good" moment than the underwater sections were. Probably because I loved the underwater sections from the start and only liked the final section after figuring out how the turns work. I mentioned on the Maple Treeway video how there's a spot in my heart for Wigglers, and that's literally the only reason why Amsterdam is not my favorite Tour city course. Madrid has a Wiggler, Amsterdam doesn't. That's basically the only reason why I like Madrid better than Amsterdam. I love the music in both cities (as stated 2 paragraphs ago, though I do like Madrid's better), and Madrid lacks Amsterdam's underwater section. When I want to torture my thumbs a bit more (after what I did at Grumble Volcano yesterday 😆), I'll put more time into this one and learn the 🍄 cut to start the final lap. At least for now, my thumbs need a rest, so I'm just enjoying watching this series (admittedly out of order). Also, I miss the days of the Wild Wiggler being meta. I didn't really "hate" any vehicle body back then, though I did dislike Biddybuggy and Mr. Scooty (but have since found one specific build for Mr. Scooty that I like, two if you consider the build with Bowser different than with Bowser Jr., but the driver is the only difference). Now I legitimately hate the buggies, with the Splat Buggy potentially being unfairly grouped in that hatred. As for the Birdo/Daisy/Peach/Yoshi (and now Peachette) class being meta instead of DK/Roy/Waluigi (and now Wiggler) class, I like that change for a few reasons. 1. There's more character variety in this class than there was in the "old meta" driver class (and with Wiggler being a Medium build instead of a Large build, Wiggler would be the new Waluigi without a change to the driver meta). 2. Aside from Peachette, who I don't know very well in the Mario franchise and thus neither like nor dislike, I have a reason to like every character in the current meta class. 3. In the old meta class, Waluigi's voice lines are #2 on my list of most annoying characters, with only Toad being worse (which goes all the way back to Double Dash on the GameCube, as Toad sounded just fine on the N64; thanks a lot, Jen Taylor 💔). 4. Even worse for the old meta, Seth Rogen "Jen Taylor'd" Donkey Kong for me. Once again, thanks a lot. 💔 Sadly, my attempt to end this comment on a positive note falls flat. The bikes that are now "meta" were already "inward meta".

I think it's the combination of the chant and the hardcore polka riff in a mario-fied melody that just clashes if you were raised with kind of music as traditional folk music. It feels like a bad mashup, because the different parts don't sound like they're working together in the overall melody. If they had either, toned down the accordion riff, removed the chanting, or removed the little bit of "Mario" doddily-doodily-doodily, I think the song would be just fine. Worth noting, when I went to check out the music on another channel, there was a Dutch guy that certified it as a banger, which is why I think it's an untrained ear thing. I had a similar issue at a party a couple weeks back where all the music was Mexican dance music and I just couldn't figure out the rythms.

Having barely touched 150 since the Great Balancing of 2023 I appreciated the combo advice! Do you think something like yoshi/teddy will be the speedrun meta overall? I can't tell if that, yoshi/biddy, or something like rosa/teddy come out on top based on pure lines
@Bayesic
@Bayesic Жыл бұрын
I feel like probably not Rosa teddy since it’s only used on a couple of the tracks at least on wave 4 My guess would be that most players “should” use yoshi teddy, but I wouldn’t be surprised with the sheer number of formerly baby tracks if top players are able to make yoshi biddy faster

Honetsly, I love the Amsterdam music- in Tour. They didn't ruin it in 8 imo but it is a downgrade which is a shame. I do really like the track though, my least favourite city in Wave 4 but I still enjoy playing on it a lot.

One thing I've noticed about the soundtrack of this course is that it's the only one in the game where the human voice is heard in such a noticeable way, or at all. Maybe that contributes to making it off-putting. It's weird to picture a choir in a mario kart context.

Good video, as always! Sidenote: Guys, I need some advice. My left thumb hurts and has developed a blister-thing on its tip. Here's my story: I used an 8BitDo SN30 Pro+ controller for years, and it worked great. Eventually the left thumbstick soft cover peeled off due to Mario Kart (lol), and all that's left of the stick is the hard, plasticky part. I kept using it, but like I wrote already, my thumb has developed a blister-thing. It's not an actual blister I don't think, but rather it's rough and painful. I have two other controllers: Dual Joycons (with grip), and an unbranded Switch controller that looks like it's inspired by Xbox. The Dual Joycons are good, but the joystick material irritates my thumb further. The unbranded controller works fine except that it gives me ghost inputs. Just today it was making me hop at times that I didn't want to, which can really mess up your lines. So my question is, what should I do? Is there a good controller that MK8DX players use? I'm considering the official Switch Pro Controller, but I am unsure. Or, should I abstain from playing Mario Kart until my thumb is completely healed? Something else?
@nfrmptbongo9439
@nfrmptbongo9439 Жыл бұрын
Two things: 1) Use what's more comfortable to you (i.e. Not the callous inducing controller) 2) Cheap generic controllers tend to have additional input lag, which is a no-no So in conclusion, use Joycons and if you can't get used to them, buy something else that's from a good brand.

@@nfrmptbongo9439 What kind of controller do you recommend? I'm considering the Switch Pro Controller, but I don't know if the joystick cover could peel off like it did on the 8BitDo SN30 Pro+.

Question i've always wondered, when you release a MT when also tricking - or using a mushroom whilst also releasing a MT - does it make the boost more or do they cancel each other out?
@Bayesic
@Bayesic Жыл бұрын
So releasing an MT while tricking is a little bit different from using a mushroom and releasing a MT because in the former, the trick push, doesn’t usually come out until the mini turbo runs out The reason you want to release the MT at the same time as the trick is that the MT boost makes you go faster throughout your air time. As for the mushroom situation, short answer, is it the boosts don’t stack

I actually think this arrangement is fine in theory, but the vocals on the soundtrack sound REALLY fake and tacky to me. idk if they're actually synthesized, but the tone quality is just really bland and swallowed to my ear. Maybe this is a Dutch style of singing and I'm just culturally insensitive lol, but I can't find any Dutch folk singing that sounds like this. Seems to be bad production quality that ruined an otherwise fine song :(
