I throw chipped plates out unless they're the right size to be used underneath plants. I think they're supposed to be unhygienic once they're chipped. I hate throwing things out too, but sometimes you just need to. You're already doing more than your fair share in minimising waste by not buying into the consumer culture, so don't feel bad for throwing them out.
@suzanneroelofse59708 ай бұрын
Totally agree. The unglazed ceramic where the chip is, is porous and therefore great for bacteria to grow. It's the one time to pick being "wasteful". I figure if the plate was completely cracked, you would've thrown it away pretty easily because it doesn't work correctly any more. This is almost the same thing. ❤

I love seeing you wear your hand-knit items. And, I agree, it's such a nice feeling knowing you knit something you can wear. And I really enjoy your decluttering videos. It just shows that even minimalists have things they don't use anymore. It's normal. As our lives change, our needs change.

I really like hearing your rationale for decluttering each item and by the end I guess there was a fair amount of stuff, which just goes to show how easy it is to live with things you don't need and how much more efficient and clear life is once you figure that out. awesome xxx

Hi Bayley! I have found that older, chipped or scratched plates and saucers come in handy to place plants on to catch any drainage after watering. Hard to imagine you would’ve had anything to declutter as you keep such a tidy, minimal home. Have a great week ahead! 😊
@user-ij9uk8tn8i6 ай бұрын
That's what I do too! Another "gardening" use for chipped or broken crockery is to smash it up, and put it at the bottom of plantpots to add drainage - especially for succulents.

Your sweater is beautiful! I love the little speckles of color. I’m working in flylady zone 2 the kitchen this week, so it’s perfect timing! I have a hard time decluttering mugs, because many are sentimental or just are really comfortable to drink from.
@thatswhatisaid89086 ай бұрын
I don't have that many mugs, but too many for one person who never has more than 3 guests! I've a giant one for tea, a couple of small ones for coffee, some largish ones for warm drinks, and a lovely mug and saucer set for 4. I also have a smaller mug for tea, in case I don't have time to drink a bucket. I suppose it could go...

The jersey looks great, well done! If you don’t have a plant that needs the plate underneath it, throw the chipped plate out. We can’t save everything from the landfill and by living such a beautiful minimalist life you are already doing enough xxx

My grandpa used to sand down my Grans chipped ceramic and baked ware when he could. If it gets too deep it helps to seal with a dish safe “ glue”. ( from Southernest Ontario 🇨🇦 ).

I love decluttering and I do it at least 2 times a year. Such videos motivate me to go around my house and declutter. I don't really keep any chipped or broken dishes (or anything else that's broken). I hardly buy anything at all so I think it's ok to replace broken items (that I need and use often) and not feel bad about it. Thanks for the video and hope to see you soon in a new one💜

I love the sweater! I wanted to tell you that you can buy a "blind corner" pull out shelf for corner cupboards. It would allow you to pull the shelf out to get to the items in the back without removing everything.

Love the sweater! We're coming off of winter, and I have enjoyed wearing a sweater over a dress which makes it look like a skirt. I find dresses more comfortable and warmer than skirts. My kitchen is due for a declutter soon, so thanks for the motivation! I am surprised at how clean your glasses and dishes seem on the opening shelving. I don't think I could handle that kind of responsibility. 🤭😆 Oh, and I love the word boot which we call a trunk. I have an SUV so we just call it the "wayback" because it isn't a trunk at all.

That sweater looks beautiful. We keep using chipped plates because we're a large family and I feel like we'd always be buying plates otherwise. Chipped cups we find another use for if they're cute or toss if not, we don't like it near our mouths. We use a "special " dinner set as our everyday set , it brings me so much happiness that it's used and not gathering dust in a glass cabinet but pieces are expensive to replace. I keep broken ones for a mosaic top table for my garden , which for 1 helps me feel better if any get broken and 2 ,don't go to landfill. I've just decluttered my clothes and I'm still shocked how much was hiding in my single door wardrobe. Haha. Very much needed. Time for me to redo the whole house. Thank you for sharing lovely ❤❤

I did a big declutter recently. Dug deep in my quilting stuff and realised that I was being ridiculous and too frugal keeping old sheets etc 😂. some friends have given us A LOT of hand me downs and I went through the items and took a few and passed on the rest. I have also had to do (get) some upgrades for sizes of things like containers etc and have had some containers break after about 10 years of daily use. It felt SO good to get rid of it all after a month of collecting it in my laundry it was driving me crazy. I was spending a few moments daydreaming of only having 2 children to help to declutter their one room whilst I watched your video. Lastly……your jumper!!!! I think it is so so beautiful and well made!!! Bravo! ✨

I toss chipped plates. I get nervous the pieces will get into our food, or my kids will cut their fingers. If you have the time (and energy) you could use it to make a little mosaic. I bought a kit once a while ago and my kids and I made little mosaic stone with some broken drink glasses.

Hey Bayley :) I throw out chipped plates. Not worth keeping them around as indeed, they may have sharp edges (and I get paranoid eating off them, thinking I might swallow part of the plate). I'd say, when they are chipped they are either very well used, or they weren't good quality to begin with. Either way, time to replace :) PS: Love Love LOVE the sweater! I am a knitter myself, so I understand the feeling of being so proud but also so afraid to wear ypir handmade pieces 💗
