This...and a lot of the struggles this team faces stems from having a SOFT coach. I've tried and defended LR till I was blue in the face but just can't anymore. He has turned this team into something that's just SOFT. You should never, or rarely hear that a team out-physicaled OU and since Riley took over we hear that A LOT. I'm tired of the other team looking stronger and just flat out meaner. We have got to get a coach that d oesnt care about feelings.
@cocokatdaddy423 жыл бұрын
Riley needs to hire an offensive coordinator. He can't call plays and be the head coach at the same time. He doesn't have enough time to do both and have a proper game plan in place each week. He has to learn to delegate responsibility.
@kenthatfr3 жыл бұрын
100% agree. I can't imagine how much a head coach has on his shoulders and to try to be OC as well? The team suffers because of it. He needs to bite the bullet and let go.
@boomerbutler75693 жыл бұрын
This is really great analysis from the perspective of former players who've been there and can look objectively at the offense and defense. There are problems with the offense and that's hindering the entire team going forward. I wonder if we could switch our offensive attack plan to the air raid in hopes that a pass first offense will open up the weak run game? Instead of trying to run the ball to open up the pass, could we pass to open up the run? The hard part is that we're now in game 10/12 and the offense isn't progressing enough to win a Big 12 title again. Also, why can't Teddy coach LB's at OU? We haven't had a Butkus award winner since he played in 03'.

I felt like we didn't attack the middle of the field at all on offense. We had a couple plays early where we targeted Stoops (drop kind've behind him) and Mims (drop) in crossing route type situations, but for the rest of the game we either ran or threw the ball way too deep trying to get massive chunk yardage. Screens, quick slants and PA screens were nowhere to be seen. We put our receivers in situations where they are 1 on 1 and having to make crazy catches vs just getting the ball quickly and let them try to make a move in open space.

When everyone, except for the team in question, knows that you won’t handle your business, there should not be any crying about not having any street cred. By the way, Coach, if everyone in the stadium knows what play you are going to run, before you run it, perhaps it is time to become a little less predictable and substantially more aggressive on both Offense and Defense! The weak and timid win nothing, just ask the Selmon brothers, etc…

Anyone that was "Shocked" or "Surprised" by the outcome of the Baylor game just wasn't paying attention. Baylor showed up and looked absolutely SOLID. Other than their passing game, they looked much better than we did. Defensively, I thought we looked solid in the first half and mediocre in the second. Offensively, ugh. WHY did we abandon the run game?! Caleb looked like a true freshman (which happens), but to not put more effort into the run game (especially when we started to have some success in the second half) makes no sense. But what's even MORE frustrating is that when they *did* find some success running the ball, and had some 2nd and 3rd and short situations, rather than get first downs, they dropped back ten yards and hurled 40-yard bombs to receivers who weren't open. This IMO was the worst-called game since LR became OC and/or HC. And I am so sick of playing finesse-first, non-physical football. That's not winning anything in the SEC or in these last few weeks for that matter. So stinking frustrating. I know I'm just a fan, but seeing what's failing isn't rocket science.

If Baylor was running coverage so good that he couldn't throw, that was supposed to be when he would escape for a 50 yard run...but he didn't. And they kept calling it. Even Klatt was pointing out that they were not setting up for the deep passes they kept trying to throw...And they kept calling it. I could care less about the blocking schematics because it is primarily the old Washington Redskins (Hogs) blocking scheme. It will work with athletic linemen but OU's linemen are way too fat and do not have enough time in the weight room. So much for ragging on Spencer Rattler and anointing Caleb Williams the miracle man. Lincoln Riley’s offense, like most offenses, is contingent upon the run game. It is still not too late if Oklahoma is willing to get up early and hit the weight room and prepare like they want to win a national championship. I would flat out start benching running backs and linemen for missing blocks. All of the linemen seem to be middle of the road and not strong enough to bow up against top level competition.
