A note about btrfs: I know there is a group of people who like to use btrfs on SteamOS/Steam Deck. The main benefit is the space savings from transparent compression and data deduplication, but also in some cases it can make file I/O *faster* due to loading and decompressing data being faster than loading uncompressed data from slower storage mediums like SD cards.

Bazzite's concept sounds almost like a linux for consoles, something you just turn on, download the update and it works, but without all the proprietary console nonsense. Hopefully with more updates it becomes closer to that ideal Nice video!

rpm-ostree, the tech that ublue is based on, supports installing RPM packages as overlay packages but yeah, containers are recommended and yafti can be a bit slow / jank but it works most of the time (eventually)

Hey would you be willing to do a video on ChimeraOS? Also a gaming distro. It's like 1/4th iso size of bazzite and hasway more people using it. Why is it so popular?

if deckUI with the Nvidia version worked, I'd be happy... just launch SteamOS already.

gamescope + nvidia is in progress, but it’s mostly on nvidia for not really supporting Wayland

BTRFS vs EXT4... don't know why certain people make these dumb arguments. BTRFS trades some speed for just a ton of very useful features. Complaining you are loosing some speed is dumb. If you care that much about speed you are dropping all those awesome features then you might was well use W instead of X, Y instead of Z, and the argument just goes on and on until you are installing Gentoo and compiling the kernel for your specific hardware. It is just a dumb argument. Why are you using transparency on your taskbar. That is using precious resources!

I agree that we can circle down the drain of optimization way too far (; my main issue is that there is nothing to use the extra functionality, thus making it a waste. In my experience, users in search of a gaming distro won't go use these extra functionality unless they are implemented in an easy way! Love the strong opinion! Keep it up!

my main issue is the reliance on flatpak. I don't know why, but to me, it feels wrong to sandbox steam. Doesn't that make the user experience harder than it needs to be? i heard some games through proton don't like being in a flatpak.
@Aikoh3 ай бұрын
Steam is not a flatpak in Bazzite. Regardless, I also haven't had any issues with the flatpak version of Steam on other linux distributions.

@@Aikoh well I tried bazzite in a VM out of curiosity and steam would always crash but I think it's because it was running off basic drivers and not real hardware. Although, I don't know if I should install it and give it a try. I wonder how many problems I would encounter. I have an 8bitdo ultimate Bluetooth (with dongle as well) and on distributions like nobara it would work at first but it would stop the next day. It's based on fedora just like bazzite so I'm kind of reluctant to try bazzite.

@@Gab-e4w I have the same controller (8bitdo Ultimate w/ Bluetooth and 2.4GHz dongle) and it works just fine for me on Bazzite. Granted, I have been using Bazzite for less than a week, but I don't have any issues so far.

@@Gab-e4wit’s a good system though I can’t guarantee you won’t have problems with hardware that’s known to be difficult on it. Sometimes it’s good to face those issues and track down their root cause instead of choosing/avoiding distros based on it. I did that once and it later turned out that my problem was due to a newer kernel, switching back the the other distribution where things ran fine only lasted a couple months until they also got the kernel version that troubled me. What I can say about bazzite is that it has one of the cleanest and most stable systems I have seen. It’s just very clever in its implementation and most people underestimate it. For example most people totally miss the fact that it has a deterministic approach in that you tell the system which GFX card you have, which desktop you want etc when you download it, that information is actually saved in the system and directly influences how the system is rebuilt when updating. If you later want to switch from kde to gnome and got rid of your NVIDIA card for an amd one you adjust that information and your entire system rebuilds itself to reflect that without nuking any manual changes you did.

What is the best gaming Linux OS for AMD hybrid graphics?
@Maple-Circuit4 ай бұрын
always depend on what you want to do.... if your only goal is gaming and you are fairly new to Linux, opt for an Ubuntu or Linux mint. They are simple and well documented. now if you want something on the exotic side, there is Garuda (Arch base) but its not made for newbies... Here is the review if you are interested: kzbin.info/www/bejne/fmmqdKl8fr-fhsU

@@Maple-Circuit I had Regatta Linux one time. It never installed the Driver for my Hybrid graphics that is RX-6700M card. And I never learned how to install it separately. I also tried Pop OS also. ran into the same thing.

I found one called X-ray os, its arch, it comes out of the box with timeshift / timeshift-auto snap enabled/installed by default, it also comes with gfxsomething (forgot its name) which is the hybrid graphics package pre-installed working out of the box, might want to try it out, i got it on my hp omen laptop with amd hybrid

@@Maple-Circuit I'm brand new to Linux and switched from windows 10 directly to Garuda last year. Customized my desktop to look similar to windows and it feels like I'm still using windows. I'd say Garuda is pretty beginner friendly. What's supposed to be hard about it?
