6:57 This is a set that the Thunder run all the time. It has a few names but is most commonly known as, "Minnesota." "Minnesota," occurs after opposing FTs right after the shooter gets the ball for the last attempt. When this happens two OKC players quickly jog to the other end of the court, spacing out to the corners which ends up taking two defenders with them. In the front court, the situation is 3 on 3 off either the missed basket and rebound or inbound. Regardless of which, the ball gets into the hands of a player whose job it is to push the ball quickly up the court, creating a makeshift transition opportunity. The beauty of this play is that there are so many variations on what can happen out of this set. The ball handler can attack downhill if he sees a weakness in his match up like SGA does here. If help comes from a pass away, the ball handler can read the situation and pass out to a shooter. If say a double comes for the ball handler, then often times one of the 2 players spaced out to the corner will cut to either the basket or an open spot on the floor. This set takes advantage of the fact that many players and many teams expect teams to walk the ball up the floor off of Free Throws. Off of most trips to the line, this is what the Thunder do as well. It is the surprise factor that keeps teams guessing. Let's say a team goes to the line 12-13 times. "Minnesota," will only occur on, say, 4-5 of those trips. In this particular play, KAT's normal assignment is the inbounder, Kenrich Williams (take note of how KAT's eyes are looking not at SGA but at Kenny Hustle). Kenrich is acting most likely as a trailer, and because he is actually a competent 3 point shooter, KAT cannot sag all the way to the paint. Aaron Wiggins can see that he can take two defenders out of the play by running OG into KAT and because KAT is fixated on the threat of a Kenrich Williams 3, he doesn't ever look in the direction of SGA who has an easy matchup with Jalen Brunson on him. OG takes away an SGA drive into the paint, but SGA likely read that and just continues to bully Brunson back until he can get the layup.

To be fair they could’ve very easily won in the two years following the trade, but they choked a 3-1 lead in the first year and injuries in the 2nd. If they won a chip, and maybe even while eliminating the Lakers, would it have been worth it?
@derekchatman2595Күн бұрын
@@cringedao There are many "could have's" in sports, life and the NBA. Magic Johnson could have won 6 championships if he didn't injure his hamstring in the finals, Bird could have won more titles if didn't hurt his back and Jordan could have won 7 championships if he didn't retire early. One thing we know for certain, Kahwi WILL get injured every season and Pandemic P will never be clutch in the playoffs. If the Clippers had a do over, they would NEVER do that trade.
@cringedaoКүн бұрын
@ The flaw in that logic is that you’re assuming Clippers can look into the future. No one would’ve guessed finals MVP Kawhi would be riddled with injuries and top 3 in MVP voting Paul George was going to disappear in that 2020 nuggets series. Without today’s knowledge, Clippers and most other GM’s are still making that move to win now. Obviously they regret it now, but there’s a reason Clippers became considerable favorites immediately after the trade. I’m an OKC fan myself anyways, but no GM back then could’ve predicted the outcome of this trade years back. Unless your name is Sam Presti lol
@derekchatman2595Күн бұрын
@ This is exactly why they are punching the air. My original statement was about today when they can see the whole picture. They wouldn’t trade SGA. On the flip side, it can be said that OKC has strength in numbers but the gap between SGA and the rest of the team is too much and that's their weakness. Knicks has 4 starters that can drop 40, and Hart can get a 20 points triple double.
@malcolmadair83732 күн бұрын
There is probably two players on that team better than our 2-3 players. OKC legit has 3 out 5 of the best players when they step on the court. Plus you bench is non existent. The can drop 40 on a weak ass defense. None of them are getting 40 against OKC.
@thesix41762 күн бұрын
@@malcolmadair8373Knicks got the better starting 5 vs OKC and it's not even close. OKC has a better bench. Chet and Caruso didn't play but McBride and Mitchell didn't play for the Knicks.

@@malcolmadair8373Last night Knicks starters got 102 points vs OKC starters of 73 points. Kat and Brunson both had off games offensively. The starting 5 from Knicks are clearly better than OKC.

@ dude how the fuck are they better when they are getting locked up by not even close to are best players. There is legit no chance the Knicks have a better starting 5. I repeat your 1-2 players are so far below SGA level isn’t not even funny. Also again our 2-3 best players are better than probably your next 4 combined. If 3 of 5 best players on OKC side why the hell would you guys have a better starting 5?

Great breakdown but if you’ve been watching Knicks games you’d know Mikal is nowhere near the best perimeter defender in the league he either leaves too much space and gets shot on or he gets bodied on a drive. OG is a much better defender because he’s physical and actually puts pressure on the ball and isn’t easily bodied in the paint like mikal

Pretty disappointed that it’s taken u this long to make a video on the best guard in the league/ one of the most efficient shot creators OF ALL TIME who is on the best defensive team since the BILL RUSSEL CELTICS. Right on cue with the media realising they should be marketing Shai and not overhyped players like Ant, zion and Ja. And people wonder why ratings are down

@Dimeast Mavs are slow starters and don't turn it up until later in the season. Will OKC's role players continue to hit those 3's in a playoff setting against physical defense? We saw a small glimpse of it vs the Bucks in the NBA cup and they folded

If Chet is healthy and can defend the 4 well alongside Hartenstein, OKC could have a decided advantage with the ability to guard KAT with 1 7-footer and keep 1 protecting the paint. But, we'll see.

@@morganworkman4165 SGA is great but it's not fully clear if he'll be better than Brunson or Kat in 7 games. Brunson averaged more than 30 while having no help last playoffs on offense. Kat is an unstoppable 7ft beast that can go 50/40/90 while grabbing 14+ rebounds.
