That’s how to train a firefighter. I bet if they did the same thing today, candidates would complain that they were being bullied.

@@joeandrews7329 yeah man! That’s my actual father!!😂 I love showing new people these videos cause how young he looks. He’s still a firefighter now but he mainly does instructor courses teaching the big long reach ladder trucks and all the specialist equipment!!

@johnlinden9106 the recruits were from Birmingham. The 29 successful recruits went to Wolverhampton and Walsall fire stations. From Joe. X

That 'only the best' commkent is utter tosh. There are recruits that deserve the boot as they simply cannot or will not learn even when you make allowances for them (that you really shouldn't). They get sent to their station and some of them are simply useless and won't make a firefighter whilst they have a hole in their backside. Us watch officers try to make a silk purse out of a sows ear as we are informed that the 'employement laws do not allow for incompetetence'. Really? So no-one gets the sack in any other job do they? Basically the training school staff are passing the buck as it's at the TS stage that incompetence or inability first shows. Don't get me wrong, it's only the odd one that is totally useless but instead of them throwing the towel in as they realise they just don't have the aptitude they carry on, and on never really getting any better and then wonder why no-one will pair up with them on a BA job or they get the reputation for being 'shaky' and the OIC has to have eyes in the back of his head as he cannot trust the individual to get the job done.
