The direction is just incredible. Whether that’s Andrew Neil walking and finishing on that table, or the move from Fiona to Nick to Emily. It just works SO well, and that music!

This was the last BBC general election night to be broadcast from BBC Television Centre in London, in their Studio TC1. TC1 still exists and is in use today (2022) but general elections moved to BBC Elstree Studios for 2015 and 2017. And in 2019 moved to BBC Broadcasting House in London.

@jimmyg00dtimes well spotted. Also, you can tell by looking at the fade from Emily Maitlis to the camera panning down to DD - the camera that was pointing at EM (and faded from) is now pointing at DD's seat.

Thanks for sharing. Remember feeling sick with excitement a few seconds before 10pm as David told us about the exit poll. As it turned out, the poll for the Tories was spot on (307 seats).

The U.S. networks could use the "Swingometer" for the midterm elections (November, 2010) to show the balance of the two major parties in the House, Senate, and Governors.

Maybe the U.S,. should adopt a uniform poll closing time for the 2012 Presidential elections, so that Brian Williams, Katie Couric, and Diane Sawyer can come on five minutes before poll closing time and do a dramatic opening to their broadcasts much like the BBC's opening for the 2010 British elections.

@@venmis137Yep. Every time I think of the 2010 election it always seems like the most quintessential, somewhat hopeful UK election. Scotland was still ruled by Labour, the Tories had no majority at first, Wales had hardly any Tories, the Lib Dems were on a fairly good footing, and it was a three horse race. Then every election after 2015 has been full of upsets and Lib Dem annihilations and Scottish Labour extinctions and the red wall being dismantled by conniving deceitful Conservatives.
@venmis137
@venmis137 2 ай бұрын
@@dominicchallis2928 For what it's worth, that era seems like it might be gone now. Labour are likely to win a majority of seats in Scotland, England, and Wales. Lib Dems might get more than 15 seats again. The Tories have no shot in the Red Wall. Still remains to be seen exactly what the new era will bring though. I choose to remain hopeful.

***** ...to see Labour win? After all, didn't you hear the rant from one of Milliband's shadow cabinet members - ''Looks weird, talks weird, is weird". The Tory vote will accelerate from a UKIP exodus...first-past-the-post ensures the spoiler effect. UKIP is a European party, not a Westminster one and their voters want a referendum on Europe now. The fear of a 'Vote UKIP Get Labour' is too prevalent and regardless off those opinion polls, the UKIP electorate almost certainly will return to the Tories for the 2015 general election, and David Cameron knows that. But anyhow, it's exiting to know how it will turn out...can't wait!
@DFandV
@DFandV 9 жыл бұрын
Ronan Murphy Than you're naive. Most people I have spoken to said that they will vote UKIP even if that means Labour get in power. They have more certain voters than Labour and Tories combined.

And now with only a few weeks until re the election, the SNP destroying Labour in Scotland and the Tories and with 6 percent over Labour? The Conservatives only need about 2 more percent from the opinion polls from UKIP to secure a majority, and that will probably happen naturally anyways on Election Day when the sudden realisation that your voting for a Prime Minister as well as an MP dawns upon you - just like 1992!

That paving thing is pretty ridiculous. "He opens the door and goes in"? It looks like The Sims. As an American, I can't act all smug, though, because we started the precedent of doing this silly stuff. It's just an attempt to milk as much coverage as possible out of every non-story.
@mgmt54

Dropping the Arthur theme tune was a big mistake. The programme itself was also pretty dross. Peter Snow and Tony King were badly missed. The election coverage on ITV and SKY was better. The Royal Wedding was also another disaster for the tax on TV viewing brigade with ITV winning all the plaudits.
