BBC Look North 28th June 2018 1982 Ford Transit Ambulance saved from scrap yard in Yorkshire

When former West Yorkshire Ambulance man David Deaves saw his old vehicle in a scrap yard he decided it should be saved and restored to its former glory. Ian White has been to Chickenley near Dewsbury to see the 1982 Ford Transit back on the road.

Great respect to persons who restored this car. Oldtimer vehicles are all the best because made for people by genius. These cars have soul. Not like plastic and electric scrap which produces now. Best regards from Azerbaijan.

We used the same Ford Transit ambulances in Hong Kong in the 1980s so this brings back lots of childhood memories!

01:24 Not true, in those days they were Millar qualified intermediate life support trained professionals. Trained in airway management ( hence laerdal suction unit etc) and lots else. The basics of paramedic training is still the same today, in fact these were paramedics of the day. The training was intense and should not be downgraded. Also, nice ambo, I also used to like the Bedford CF ambulance as well as the Transit.

Agree...I left the service in 1986,and we were intubation/infusion trained,also Lifepak equipped,and various other skills that were slowly introduced over my twelve years with the NHS.....basically being held back due to poverty training budgets.We collectively loathed the description 'ambulance driver'
