There is something reassuring and comfortable about Lynam and Motson on BBC on Saturday.

The atmosphere created by Lynam, Motty and the other commentators, along with the colour of the set etc, makes it feel like a chilled out Saturday afternoon rather than a Saturnay night programme - and that's a good thing!

Memorable as I listened to the Nottingham Forest - Liverpool game on 5 Live commentated by Alan Green. That last minute equalizer by Robbie Fowler back then really made my day. This was the iconic season where the Title race goes into the final day and Sky Sports show split screens. 1995 Wonderful and Memorable.

My team,Portsmouth,were in the Prem in the 2000s...I wish we had been there in 95 etc. The players and kits were iconic. Modern football now is a joke.

@mamebiramdiouf3256 Nearly every team had a world class player, before the big teams monopolised it all, di canio at West ham? okocha at Bolton, league was far more balanced, games were more competitive, in the utd arsenal games they was given a free red card challenge each before anyone got booked PS play up pompey!
@mcvicarross78 ай бұрын
It was a proper physical mens game back then before the world went mad! The atmosphere at games now is utter shite it's not comparable, add VAR & not being able to tackle coupled with the Woke Brigade on the BBC and they've conspired to ruin the game!

What changed there with Mark Hughes then? He was at Chelsea soon after wasn't he?
@That_Random_Bloke2 жыл бұрын
They thought at the time Cantona would leave. The suspension was until October 1995 and it wasn’t clear at this stage (Feb 95) if there would be a prison sentence. Inter Milan were hovering and wanted him (they eventually got Paul Ince). Once Ferguson persuaded Cantona to stay, with Cole there too. Hughes would no longer be a starter. So he went to Chelsea which turned out to be a great move for him.

Both those Palace goals would have been disallowed these days. The first for hand ball against Salako, and the Wark foul would have been ruled as a free kick

Ahh the good old days before the Woke Brigade came in & ruined it all! Knowledgeable men presenting, talking & analysing the beautiful game without clowns like Ian Wright & Micah Richards sitting getting paid for just being there! No politics or personal beliefs just the game! Feels like centuries ago!

Richard’s always acts the clown but I think that’s a little harsh on Ian Wright

Coles best years were at Newcastle before he joined MAn U. He scored 55 times in 70 games. I think in one of them seasons he scored 40 odd goals.

@maxwellboyne2770stats don't lie and I think you really struggle with your maths especially ratios. 55 goals out of 70 appearances is incredible. Get a calculator.

Mid 90s & the St John's Ambulance first aiders still look like out of Dad's Army! They have day jobs & do this aid work for zero money & selflessness, unlike that lot on the pitch. But at last they look like the part-time paramedics they are for public events & that eases the NHS of cuts & bruises work that can snarl the emergency department.
