The inspiration for this re-creation might have been the CBS series "You Are There" (1953-57 and revived 1971-73) which re-created historical events as if they were breaking news seen live on television.

East-Prussia (north of the word Poland) belonged to Germany in 1939. The famous polish corridor between Germany and East-Prussia existed since 1919, in order Poland have access to the sea. The corridor was one of the three reasons to attack Poland. Map: 1:15

Before the war, the BBC National Programme, the national radio station would be on the air from 10.15am until Midnight each day, this new 7.00am start was a big change, radio at breakfast time. Also until this time, BBC never produced a news bulletin before 6.00pm, allowing the newspapers to have free reign. This was done away with and news would always start the day on the new BBC Home Service at 7.00am.

Can anybody write something more about these videos? Who made that and when? Were BBC journalists going with german troops and recording these events? To this part i almost belived this is original broadcast.
@johnking5174

+krzychu These programmes were made by the BBC in 1989 to commemorate the then 50th anniversary of the outbreak of the World War Two. They were part of a week of commemoration on the BBC. It was a project which continued in 1994 when they made special programmes covering D-Day and in 1995 to commemorate VE and VJ Day. The concept was to present the news in the form of a television news bulletin as if the events where happening now. How would television news programmes report the outbreak of war if the television was advanced back in 1939 as it was in 1989. The special bulletins aired nightly on BBC One after the BBC Nine O'Clock News. You can see the Radio Times listing here in their BBC Genome site - example for 1st September 1989 is here: genome.ch.bbc.co.uk/schedules/bbcone/london/1989-09-01 They used extensive archive footage from newsreels, and news footage taken from the war. Remember newsreels were a huge part of a cinema visit during the 1940s. The BBC had no television news coverage during the war, so any footage in black and white you see in these programmes were from Movietone News, Gaumont News etc. Research material for each programme were taken from actual BBC News bulletins on radio at the time, newspapers, and actual archive records of what happened at the outbreak of war. The "bulletins" were recorded in the BBC TV Centre in London and they used the BBC newsreader Sue Lawley as she had the best accent and presentation style which was reminiscent of the 1940s. Hope this helps you understand the programme.

Map: 1:18: Where is the German East-Prussia? Hitler demanded a "German" railway through the Polish corridor to East.Prussia. The Poles refused. A war because of a railway? Thank you, Poland.

Germany had only 100 000 soldiers, no tanks, no airplanes and no reservists. Hitler broke the "Treaty" of Versailles in 1935. The German tanks and German airplanes, that attacked Poland in September 1939, had been built between 1936 and 1939. You see, how "strong" Germany was. Hitler had occupied the Rhineland, Austria, the Sudetenland and Rest- Czechoslovakia without shooting but with blackmail. He hoped to get the German city of Danzig and a "German" railway through the Polish corridor to the German East-Prussia without shooting but with blackmail as well. The proud Poles said: We refuse to negotiate, We prefer a war; besides Britain and France had promised to fight for Poland. Map 1:18: Is it possible to show a correct map in internet?

Germany was weak as fuck, but because of England and France he could take without any shot Austria and Czechoslovakia. Someone had to stop it, so Poles did. Poles are proud, because their nationality wasn't destroyed by any German nor Russian. They are a balance for Europe, as XIX century showed, if there isn't Poland on map - there isn't any balance in Europe.

iVenge you shut up, Poles fought for their and your homeland, Battle of Britain was won because of Polish squadrons (especially because of 303rd fighter squadron). Many English, Canadian or ANZAC pilots approved that. Battle of Monte Cassino, you, Brits, couldnt achieve it for months. When 2nd Polish Army on the West came to Italy, they achieved it faster than Brits. Polish flag was string at 10:00, British at 11:00. Polish Armor Division made Kriegsmarine base in Wilhelmshaven capitulate. 200,000 Poles with Red Army crossed Polish 1939 border with Germany and captured with Russians Berlin. By the time, many Poles were killed by Germans and Russians in death camps (e.g. Auschwitz-Birkenau). Russians forced Poles to work in humiliating working conditions in gulag, where lot of them died because of hunger or cold weather. So shut your filled with fish and chips mouth.

What about 617 Squadron who were instrumental in destroying German infrastructure or Alan Turing who decoded U-Boat transmissions? Both British and both important. Turing's work led to the invention of the World Wide Web (Internet) which also happens to be British.

What idea? There was no such proposal only ridiculous idea of allowing free access to the red army on Polish territory. Poland could as well ally Germany but in any of these two options that would be at the cost of territory and sovereignty. Poland had no other choice but to ally France and then Britain. but they were unable or unwilling to fight Germany in 1939. Not to mention that soviets already in 1937 wanted to execute everybody in USSR even suspected of Polish ethnicity (NKVD mass operation), after about 100.000 people were killed the cleansing was cancelled. In 1939 Germans still weren't bloody mass murderers, soviets already purged and killed hundreds of thousands and starved to death tens of millions....

Kubson Gdańsk was a free city, ruled and ruined by NSDAP since 1933 and Poland had very little to say in there, probably wouldn't even react if Gdańsk was annexed. Germans wanted to connect Prussia most of all so the war was unavoidable. Also... calm down. France could and should attack Germany but Britain had no possibility to do so, nobody was prepared to the war, not even Germans. Britain survived just because of English channel and Royal Navy, RAF barely managed to fend off Luftwaffe.
@kubson6196
@kubson6196 7 жыл бұрын
Oskar It's obvius that Gdansk was a free city but when NSDP was ruling in the germany, germany started to have a massive influence to a Gdansk government. And after that they began increasingly to limit Poland guaranteed by the League of Nations powers. This resulted in the intensification of anti-Polish provocation, elimination of opposition to the NSDAP party and political repression directed at Gdańsk Jews. In 1938, the authority in the Free City of Danzig actually taken over the NSDAP, which intensified hitleryzację this city, advocated by leaders of the National Socialist, among others Albert Forster. Opening organized Nazi paramilitary militia (SA) and trained them. If Poland would give them Gdansk.Hitler would attack Poland maybe few months later. ,, Britain had no possibility to do'' No man they had good navy? - YES they had good air forces? - YES I'm not saying that british troops would come to Poland but they COULD send to Poland a lot of equipment. They COULD attack germany from air and water. But no, and for me those scum (france, england) they dont deserve any respect after that. ,,. Britain survived just because of English channel and Royal Navy, RAF barely managed to fend off Luftwaffe.'' 100% true And in my opinion Poland would join to Hitler and in the worst case, Poland would be a puppy country for Germany. It's better to save your country than fucking destroy it because of fucking reatrded honour. Remember: ,,Sometimes you must hide your honour in your shoes, especially when it comes to affairs of your nation''
@05KAR
@05KAR 7 жыл бұрын
Kubson Gdańsk had a nazi government even before Germany. I know its history, more or less, you forgot to add just that the Free City was de facto bankrupt because of national socialists. We will never know but we know at least that Gdańsk was not the only demand so Germany would not be appeased anyway. No, sorry but RAF was still quite weak, in the battle of France at some point they decided to not help any more because they couldn't afford more losses. The land forces were even weaker, UK haven't had a single armoured unit. You're forgetting the fact that Poland was isolated, with a little strip of coastline that was taken over in few days and British Navy would be destroyed in Baltic anyway. No idea what would soviets do with Poland after that because Germany would loose that war with or without Poland and it would be going on the Polish territory with Polish troops. In 1939 it was hard to predict that Germans will massacre millions of civilians but as I've said, soviets did it already and everybody knew about that. Poland was just in a hopeless situation and it would be destroyed in any scenario... maybe just if France would manage to defeat Germany in September 1939 but already in October that would be hard or impossible.
