BBC Radio 1 was established in 1967, as a direct response to the popularity of offshore pirate radio stations, like Radio Caroline & Radio London. The pirate stations were playing Rock & Roll, while BBC basically ignored the popular Rock music. In the early days, Radio 1 tried to mimic, up to a point, American Radio, with Rock music, big personalities, and American style jingles. It took several years for Radio 1 to catch on, but it finaly did.
This aircheck features Davis Lee Travis, who at the time of this recording, was new to the morning show on Radio one, after spending time hosting Radio 1's afternoon drivetime show.

Hello mr. Feaster, thank you for this, it is amazing. DLT as we was also known, was like Dick Clark , in a sense. Meaning he also did Top of the pops on the BBC, in case anyone did not know. As mentioned by he himself. It had been coined the UK's answer to American Bandstand. Funny, being that, top of the pops had their own USA version on CBS. Yes, starring Nia peeples, sometime during the 1980s. Anyway a lot of this is via KZbin as well. But now, you made this happen today, and it is awesome. Again, I thank you , because it has made my day. I am a fan of this, and other historic events, keep up the great work
