Indeed! Radio 1 was much better then. They used to do the travel news, nowadays I suppose being stuck in traffic is considered not important enough. And gorgeous Jakki Brambles!

Not that the voice or personality was lacking anything, but the listeners were definitely missing out on the visual qualities of Jackie Brambles

Yes, lads, I understand - used to listen to BBC on a "Norde Mende" SW in in 1960s - we would hear about what the "Beatles" were doing.. London, Carnaby Street fashions - everything was / is always better in the past, but JAKKI- she's the living end and a sight for these old eyes... bless YT and irishradio.

"It's 26 and a half minutes to 7" - haha. I recall Alan Partridge said a similar thing with the time at Radio Norwich. Jackie Brambles was lovely though. I remember seeing her on TOTP in like 1988/9? and was a teenager in luuuurve.

such a beautiful attractive women, she very talented too, back than it Variety Music on Radio 1, i can see why it was 1 FM, now it all mainly about the beat/Dance, Rap, Urban and hard rock music station, it's gone down hill

You can blame ex Radio 1 controller Matthew Bannister for that, it now been 26 years since the station was destroyed by the demolition man, I haven't listen to this station over 20 years. Use to have a crush on Jaki Bramble back in it heyday. Beautiful woman.

@@scottpeacock5492 Radio 1 is for the young audience (The BBC's Royal Charter states that Radio 1 is "principally a popular music service aimed at young audiences, with a commitment to the best new music, but also containing significant speech output"), and a lot of the DJs were getting older, as was their audience. John Peel and Anne Nightingale survived because they kept with the times and played new stuff. As Bannister himself said on _Trouble at the Top..._ _"There were a number of DJs who were older than the Prime Minister [John Major], the Director General of the BBC [John Birt] and the Archbishop of Canterbury [George Carey]. In fact, one of them was an old age pensioner! Now, I'm not ageist about people, you can have people of 70 broadcasting to young people, but if the whole cast of characters is somehow massively out of touch with youth culture, then you really have a problem."_ Jackie Brambles was never "Bannistered" despite what _Troubled at the Top_ would have you believe. She left of her own accord to move to America in the hope of becoming the BBC's American showbiz reporter, but that never materialised and she ended up at CBS, and then back on British media as the American correspondent for GMTV. She's now on Greatest Hits Radio. [EDIT] It was from _Blood on the Carpet,_ not _Trouble at the Top._ Got the two series mixed up. D'oh!

Backwards faders?
@bobballard31463 жыл бұрын
BBC faders worked top to bottom because, supposedly, you couldn’t open one inadvertently. As the faders all had solenoids in them, a slight movement would set off carts and cds if they were bottom to top.

if my maths is right she was 23 here, cant decide if she looked older than her age then, or looks younger now than she is (50), shes not changed lol
@ajs414 жыл бұрын
She looked like a typical 23 year old in 1990 on this video. I don't think she looks older than that.
