► Former BBC Breakfast presenter Bill Turnbull revealed that he'd been diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer in March 2018.
Since then, Bill has been undergoing treatment and has become an ambassador for Prostate Cancer UK - urging men to get themselves checked and to be aware of the signs and symptoms.
In this interview, Bill speaks with long-term friend, and former co-host, Sian Williams about how he's been over the last couple of years.

Diabetes has almost the same symptoms and can be confused with the symptoms of Prostrate cancer. Going to the toilet more often and back ache etc. If you are Diabetic ask for a prostrate check.

My take from this is that there isn’t a reliable enough test for screening prostate cancer yet. Until there is, a national screening programme would not be beneficial, and would cause a lot of anxiety and unnecessary treatment in men that would never actually die from the disease anyway.

Bassbytes you are so correct. I am going through this mill. Even GPs are divided over the benefits of PSA testing and the proctal examination is ok for enlarged prostate but too inaccurate for cancer. We need greater accuracy than this or our screening service will be overloaded with men with prostate cancer but will not die from it.

The problem is easier said than done to get checked - If you can get a Doctors appointment and have a problem you get referred to hospital - often this is cancelled or you dont get to see the specialist but see an understudy who should be supervised but isnt

Bernie, i sense your frustration but actually it won't be until about your third or fourth trip will you be any closer to a proper. diagnosis. The only currently reliable diagnosis is a biopsy to ascertain the aggressiveness of the cancer. Many checks and balances lead to this invasive sampling but its the only way. The NHS reacts very quickly to prostate cancer and like a juggernaut it drags men through its SOP and you can feel a little overwhelmed and powerless to reach the difficult decision to operate. Active surveillance will be offered if the cancer is not aggressive or likely to develop. Regular PSA checks and annual MRI scans. Im, now in my third year with what at times can feel a ticking time bomb. Please don't put off or make an excuse, get the correct diagnosis and be active in your surveillance.
