Sherlock loses against Red John in cat n mouse considering Sherlock relies a lot on reasoning and observation while to catch red John it requires strategy anticipation and planning and just by feats novel Sherlock’s strategy and planning is nowhere near as good as Patrick Jane’s, so Sherlock is at a serious disadvantage. Same with Novel L but it could go either way.

@@ClordCloud mid diff is too low. I mean, if we compare the feats of Novel Holmes and Conan directly, we'll find them to be pretty similar in many categories. With what Holmes has done, Conan has done the same thing with the same quality. Holmes had impressive powers of observation, deduction and cold reading, and Conan had those skills with no worse quality. Holmes deceived and trapped criminals, Conan was able to do the same thing, even Conan's cases are a bit more complex (well, because Sherlock Holmes is an old novel, most of the cases are pretty simple and outdated). And I'm pretty sure if someone used an argument to downplay Conan I could use that kind of argument to do the same with Novel Holmes lol

@@oldphone1947 holmes being older does not mean his case is simpler. Imo most of holmes cases involves bigger stake than conans and sometimes even more complex+ larger scale. For example great game and scandal in belgravia. Holmes deduction is also more impressive+a lot faster. Also if talking ahout bbc sherlock, his strategy and planning skill is far ahead of conans

@@ClordCloud I'm talking about Novel Sherlock. the two cases you brought up from BBC Sherlock, right? - I still maintain that Novel Sherlock's cases are not as complex as Conan's (The stories in the Holmes cases may be longer and more in-depth, but the amount of information involved in the analysis and deduction in most of Conan's cases is much more complex.) Do you want to prove the opposite? And the fact that a case is larger scale does not mean that the case is more difficult or requires more intelligence to solve it, what matters is the amount of information and the process of steps in the resolution of that case. A case with a large scale but with many clues to narrow the scope easily, that case is still much easier than a case with a small scale but the amount of information processed is extremely complex. Take for example in A study in scarlet case: in A study in scarlet, Holmes has completely found the culprit even though there is no suspect, the scope is wider so Holmes is completely superior to Conan and this case is more difficult than any other case in Conan? Absolutely not, because if Conan had a suspect, Holmes would have no shortage of clues, the logical thinking process was no different: The culprit wrote words on the wall that made Holmes guess his appearance and the purpose of the crime. Instead of killing the victim, the perpetrator lingered in the room for so long that he left many traces and that helped Holmes realize the case was a personal enmity. There was no sign of struggle but there was blood on the floor, so the criminal was probably a robust and ruddy-faced man, Thanks to the ring the perpetrator had dropped, Holmes deduced the case was related to a woman who had died, and most importantly, the victim had previously told the police about a person Hope who wanted to kill him and was the victim's love rival. - => from which Holmes determined the culprit was a carriage driver (based on the crime scene), tall, red-faced and named Hope. The way Holmes relies on those clues to narrow down the scope is similar to the way Conan relies on the circumstances and developments before the case happened and the actions of the suspects to solve the case. What determines the quality of a case is the complexity of the information and the complexity of the reasoning process. I don't understand why you say that Novel Holmes deduction faster than Conan. Using a simple logic like this, Conan usually solves a case not long after it happens, he usually solves the case fast enough that the perpetrator doesn't have time to dispose of the evidence. and Holmes solves cases in a longer period of time, some cases take days. I won't use this kind of argument to prove that Conan thinks faster than Holmes, but there is no evidence that Holmes thinks faster than Conan either. And sometimes to identify someone who thinks faster depends on the difficulty and quality of the information that character processes rather than simply "the character who makes a decision faster, that character thinks faster" For example A can mentally calculate addition and subtraction between two-digit numbers in two seconds, while B can mentally do multiplications by hundreds in 4 seconds. Can we say A thinks faster than B? Because A can solve his problem in quicker time? Definitely not because the calculation A is much easier to handle than B.
