In the Netherlands they have similar jobs. They are called “Handhavers”. From what I have seen they are officers without firearms. Recently there are again similar jobs in Saskatoon, Canada. (Where we live now). I will support them if needed.

The difference is that, these people are unpaid & they are only part-timers. You know nothing lady. By the way, specials are mentored on the job by a regular officer or officers & have to do a year, before they can Patrol alone. A special carries a baton, spray & cuffs.

Specials are full police officers in terms of powers. They just happen to be volunteering there time for free. Police community support officers are paid police staff, they do not have the power of arrest, or permission to use force, they are designed to be closely integrated with the community to gather intelligence and improve relations. Aswell as handling minor things so police officers can be better used

@@Animated.Odyssey yep...I know. I volunteered with the police here in Canada before I joined. The extent to which they are used in the UK though is problematic, they are exposed to the same dangers with no pay, limited training and lack of support. Aux police programs are supposed to be about engaging the community and improving relationships not bolstering police numbers. It’s a slippery slope. Wouldn’t fly here with the police unions. Our specials attend parades and community events, not frontline policing functions.

The arrest of the bloke at the end was terrible. The chap was drunk yes, but disorderly he was not. If anything, the Special was assaulting him by continuously pushing him away. The guy was merely trying to engage in reasonable conversation but as is usually the case, an officer takes offence to being spoken to and gets rude and heavy handed. Just because someone has had a drink does not mean they are disorderly and need arresting. Terrible arrest and utterly unjust.
@matthewduncan2499
@matthewduncan2499 4 жыл бұрын
Barry Tyler he was clearly disorderly. The officer asked him to keep his hands to himself for his safety (rightly so) which he continued to ignore. I’m not sure what about his conversation you find “reasonable.”

@barrytyler 4 жыл бұрын
@@matthewduncan2499 The chap pointed a couple of times to the door. Yes, for safety the officer should be wary of raised hands, but he was genuinely only pointing. The officer then took offence to be called "dude"! What does it matter? The chap didn't lay a hand on the officers and was not shouting as they claimed. He was coherent. Then officer, probably embarrassed in front of cameras, just started pushing the chap away. If that was me on the receiving end I'd be going to the solicitors for some good advice!!

I disagree. I think he handled it quite well. Some members of the public nowadays need a more hands on approach to make them come around to the fact that their behaviour isn't tolerated. Diversity and ethnicity come into play but the diverse actions chosen by the officer was needed. Most officers would have arrested him for being drunk and disorderly almost straight away. May I aso remind you that a condasending attitude towards younger officers in the organization is bad practice and a point someone at your age should know by now, on or off duty.

Being kicked out of a bar for unruly behaviour, then refusing to leave the premises by both staff and two police officers after being asked several times ontop of showing aggression, inappropriately grabbing an officer while using incitive provocative language isn't disorderly?
@Thaitanium73
@Thaitanium73 6 жыл бұрын
It is the 'bouncers' word against his that his behaviour was 'unruly' (can we see a list of the rules to check if his behaviour is classed as 'unruly'?). Secondly he is on public land, he is not inside any premises. He is not using provocative language unless you think that stating you are a peaceful person is provocative. The slight hold of the officers sleeve at one point was not aggressive or really inappropriate as he was being forced to move backwards whilst being intimidated by the officers and probably was just a natural reaction to try to steady himself and slow the movement slightly. Please state what 'incitive provocative language' he is using.
