Yes ludensian i agree that wee do make a lot of fuss when a snowflake falls, but the winter for us in N.ireland in 2010 was epic most notably for the cold temps. For eg, i was out driving at 12.00 midday in my car and my cars temp gauge remained at -12 degrees mile after mile reaching a dizzing high of -10 at 3.00pm. this is unheard of. i'm 31 and never have experienced it so cold during the day. needless to say for the month i think the daily max was -3 degrees, at night it got as cold as -18.

You just don't see forecasts like that in winter anymore- minus 1 in the daytime with a 30mph hoolie blowing must have felt bitter. Will we ever see a winter like some of the ones in the 80's in the near future??
@TheMessiah7915 жыл бұрын
Yeah in some forecasts the temperatures are not even gonna get above freezing during the day. MSN are predicting lows of -8 for my area!!! Makes me feel cold even thinking about it!!!

We had big freeze-ups between the middle of January and the end February for three years in a row in 1985,1986 and 1987. 1985 had snow in March as well,while the freeze relented earliest in 1987 out of those years. Played havoc with the football fixture lists,leaving some teams to catch up major backlogs in the closing weeks of the season. In May 1985 one of the most unlikely relegation escapes was pulled off when Coventry were left 8 points below the safety line in the old Division One (equivalent level to the Premier League today) as the regular season wound up - but with three postponed games yet to be played. They needed to win all three matches to overhaul Norwich,who'd played all their fixtures,and stay in the top flight - and did it,winning 1-0 at long-doomed bottom club Stoke and also Luton before beating Everton,who'd already been crowned champions,to complete the feat.

"it just goes to show how warm our winters are now" Haha I guess this was written in 2008 when this video was uploaded. Winter 2009 and especially the month of December 2010 were colder than this.

London colder than Lerwick on that forecast. Unbelievable.
@guodade22395 жыл бұрын
Not at all. In December 1890, Scotland averaged 1.2˚C, England and Wales combined -0.9˚C! Even in that February 1986 - a similarly cold and very dry and quiet month with nothing more the cold high pressure day after day - Scotland was warmer than England and Wales by 0.2˚C, and Lerwick in the far north was probably the warmest place in the UK on average, if not to the same extent as December 1890. More recently, Scotland was warmer than England in February 1993, January 1997 and February 2012.
