this is military power, the discipline, every man, you see in line, are a warrior, that is might that other countries envy, might they can never get, because every man in line is a free man with a conscience.

What a great view, the spoiler for me are the rifles, there far to small and ugly, good in battle but not on parade. Just a thought.

Hi John, what would be a good parade rifle?
@emptyangel
@emptyangel 8 жыл бұрын
The SLR was a brilliant parade rifle. Regardless, the British soldiers have always carried the weapons they fight with on parade. This signifies their roles as fully operational and modern soldiers.

bearskins looking furry
@Richard500
@Richard500 8 жыл бұрын
That's because they are not allowed to use real bear skin anymore, they have to use a synthetic substitute I believe. I saw a clip where the Sergeant Major told one young Guardsman that he should take his new bearskin into the shower, wash it with shampoo and then carefully dry it. I pray he wasn't sending the lad on a "get me a tin of spotted paint soldier" mission? :-)
@HM-yv9xk
@HM-yv9xk 8 жыл бұрын
Richard Bond The grenadiers still look smashing. I hadnt realized they'd already found a synthetic alternative. They've been looking for a fake fur replacement for a long time, but they always come out dishevelled after the rain. I think they're still using Canadian bears at this point. Haha
@Richard500
@Richard500 8 жыл бұрын
I stand corrected! I just checked and found this : "Army officials say approximately 100 skins are taken every year from the annual cull of thousands of bears by native Inuit hunters in a Canadian government programme to keep numbers under control" - I think they are still looking! Poor old black bears then.... :-(

I watched the "trooping the colour" last week on BBC and it was completely ruined by Huw Edwards continuously talking and interrupting the spectacle and magnificent music. Doesn't the BBC realise that 99% of the viewers know what it is all about and just want to watch and listen to the music. May I suggest that in future the BBC broadcasts it on two channels with one for chit chat and interviewing random members of the public and the other for viewers to indulge in the spectacle with no commentary whatsoever, just the music . I won't be watching it next year, this years broadcast was just annoying and infuriating.

I very much agree with this .......I do not like Evans on this job ,or Dimbleby for that matter( though he was not as bad in fairness) . the Royal and Military commentator for decades was Tom Fleming , I grew up with his voice on all Royal occasions and the Edinburgh tattoo, he was perfect in every way and knew the secret .less is more . whenever he spoke it was interesting and he never said too much too often...you would think the lessons he taught would have been passed down...he was a legend in my book........Marty

Those that know the history of the British Empire will feel some element of revulsion at this continual portrayal of its Sovereign and its "traditions" as a positive portrayal of the benefits and 'greatness' of the Britsh Empire. So, easily forgotten are the tragedies of how the British Empire on a worldwide basis sucked up the wealth of subjugated countries, ........! I'm not biased: I simply have read the historical evidence, and suggest disbelievers check out the factual information of how the British Empire behaved in relation to just two scenarios: the Irish Potato Famines, and the Indian Orissa Droughts. In both cases, the result of the British government's "do nothing and let nature take its course" position, resulted in the starvation and deaths of countless millions, while meanwhile, essential food supplies in the deprived areas were exported back to England.
@franjay5585
@franjay5585 5 жыл бұрын
willo thewisp not at all, those who know the history of the british empire will feel some amount of pride and patriotism. I know about the tragedies and so on but you cant have an empire by being all nice. It is important to remember the good stuff as well as the bad for example the effort to end the slave trade by way of the africa squadron and other ways. There was also the fact that the colonies that were subject to the british are better off than say french or spanish colonies. There was also the royal proclamation that forbid further expansion west in the americas to preserve land for the native americans. No culture or nation is squeaky clean of crimes either. To say that the british empire had no benefits is just plain wrong because history isnt all black or white. After looking at the history ive personally come to the conclusion that it was ultimately a good empire however i appreciate and respect why others do not share my view
