This was the best and most thorough documentary I've seen about WW I. The opening music is both triumphant and haunting and I was glad to finally hear it on KZbin. Thank you for the upload!

It really is excellence. Search for the Great War bbc. It’s on KZbin 26 episodes from the 1960s it is even more detailed. Also search for voices from the First World War. It’s old bbc interviews from survivors

Holy crap! After so long, it's finally been uploaded to KZbin! Thank you. This is the best version of Cecil Coles behind the lines. Also BBC's First World War is one of the best documentary about World War I.

This documentary and its music is so provocative. Seeing the pictures with the theme played over it makes me just wonder about the people’s deaths, their suffering. Then I remember that the war happened on such a massive scale, one that the human mind cannot possibly understand. I’ve seen the documentary many times. It was one of those documentaries I watched when I was 12 that inspired me to become a history major. While studying history, I’ve realized that not everything I’ve watched was a good analysis of history, but this one is still good.

My paternal grandfather fought for France in the First World War. He did not speak about his experiences on the front, he did mention how most of his friends from his childhood died in the conflict, I think he felt guilty being a survivor. He died at the age of 97 in 1981.

My great great grandfather fought in the french army as well. He was blinded by mustard gas toward the end of the war and died a few years later from said health complications. Rest in peace Michel Fernandez

This song pretty much fits any war of any century. That somber, despair, and feeling of wasted youth, with a glint of hope for the future.

Sadly ironic that the composer, Cecil Coles (not Orlando Gough), was killed at the battle of the Somme in 1918. He is remembered as one of the most talented of the composers who lost their lives in the First World War.

wouldn't call it "sadly ironic", more "sadly fitting" since i am pretty sure the series creator choose him with that in mind. What is more fitting, than to have the intro be made by one that did take part in the war?

@@And-ur6ol way to take from the mood w/ semantic nonsense. The mood is communicated, his ideas (though unspecific) guide you to the same conclusions with either said term. Must be weird to want to feel right all the time. Lol care to show us all the prizes you got in your moms closet?
