Trials Of Life
This is the third in Sir David Attenborough's epic Life series, following on from Life on Earth and The Living Planet. It begins with the ways in which animals arrive in the world and ends with the extraordinary techniques they employ to reproduce. In between, there are the other trials we all have to face: building a home, finding food, rearing children and getting on with friends and rivals.
Welcome to BBC EARTH! The world is an amazing place full of stories, beauty and natural wonder. Here you'll find 50 years worth of astounding, entertaining, thought-provoking and educational natural history content. Dramatic, rare, and exclusive, nature doesn't get more exciting than this.

@@yearginclarke Even more impressive in my opinion are the octopus. They are for the most part solitary hunters and incredibly intelligent. They are taught absolutely nothing from their parents. In fact some octopus mother lay their eggs in some crevasse and then simply just stay with the eggs until she dies. When the small octo-babies are born they are on their own, and somehow many of them survive and even thrive in the seas. Compared to a human baby that needs 18 years to become a legal adult, and probably around 30 years to be an actual adult. And there are even humans that never grow out of childhood, just look at twitter.

@@Rathbone_fan_account For one you're assuming that the concept of human pain translates the same in other organisms. Insects may perceive harmful stimuli in a manner different than we do, but is painful to them. Second, torture can be figurative just as someone can be "mentally tortured" although not in actual physical pain. Insects react to certain kinds of harmful stimuli so it's possible to say "they can suffer" as insects much like the rest of us try to stay alive at whatever capacity they can.

I was drilling some holes in my door-frame: I left-off for a day and returned to find that a wasp was busy stopping-up one of the screw-holes with chewed-up wood. I left-off the job and kept an eye open for developments, until one day the screw-hole was open again and whatever had hatched inside had made a break for freedom. Wasps have also built small onion-shaped nests in my roof-space, probably the same ones that can be seen removing bits of wood from my neighbours' fence with their jaws. Admirable in a way, like the lengths the small orb-spiders go to in late summer to build their big webs right across my garden.

@@Leo.23232 Caterpillars like other insects, have a nervous system that allows them to respond to stimuli, they have nociceptors, which are sensory receptors that detect harmful stimuli. This suggests they can experience something akin to pain or discomfort. However, the nature and subjective experience of this "pain" are not well understood and are likely very different from the human experience of pain. When parasitic insects, such as certain wasps in this case, lay their eggs inside caterpillars, the larvae hatch and consume the caterpillar from the inside. The caterpillar likely experiences some form of distress or discomfort during this process, as it can exhibit behaviors indicating it is trying to rid itself of the parasites.

i had one of these wasps crawl right past me about 1 ft away from my leg while i was out in the yard sitting on a blanket. the caterpiller it had was probably twice the length of the wasp so i guess thats why she was walking with it instead of flying lol. and taking a shortcut across my blanket as well. she dropped and picked it up several times to reconfigure her straddling it. its amazing this video was in my reccomended, now i know what happened to the caterpillar lol

Trials Of Life was broadcast in 1990, so it would have been filmed from 1986 to 1989. That would mean David is between 60 and 63 years old in this clip. :)

So true. If god existed, and if he truly was the way the bible says he is, then a lot of things would be very different. The cruel and violent nature itself is the proof that such a creature does not exist.
@faith1222
@faith1222 3 жыл бұрын
@Spiderman Humanity and insects are different.. God exists, and even how cruel you may think that God allowed that monstrosity to happen, there is always a reason. The problem with people, they always like to question the way of the Divine, they always like to associate God to justice and kindness only to get disappointed by what's happening on their surroundings . They got the wrong conception of what God is. That is totally wrong...God is God, whatever he chooses..humanity has no right to question or to complain.In our simple mind what's happening is very cruel and full of injustice..however that's all we know based on the innate moral within us ..we clearly do not see the behind reason or the general picture of why it's happening. Mankind should not brag their sense of justice and morality because without God,(Supreme Creator ) where did those values come from? why we have the concept of right vs wrong?of justice vs unfairness? You see sir, I understand your point..I really do, believe me..it's just that on this world..every living things is not on the same level..some were created to become predator and others are prey/helpless..some were destined to greatness and others were born just to suffer from the beginning until death. Yes..truly..unfair indeed!!!however I would like to point out that this world is just a temporary dwelling and it's also been corrupted by darkness. Don't you see people, if God exists, then the "OPPOSITE" side also exists..due to that, SUFFERING/PAIN is inevitable. The question now is , why God allowed that to happen?because men who were supposed to be the care taker of this world preferred evil things. Their hearts are full of malicious desire..so earth that was supposed to be a paradise became the breeding ground of Darkness..life become harder and harder as time passes by and it's truly the survival of the fittest..however our life here is just temporary, the life force within our body will return to the Creator when it's time for us to leave this place. God is real and he is watching..and he is not like Zeus or Odin ( gods that have a physical body with puny powers and have mundane desires ).the real God..he is a Spirit, a Supreme Force operating in a spiritual realm but has power over the Physical realm. Do not say or assume that there is no God because of so MANY BAD things that are happening, because I'm telling you as house or a building couldn't be just POP UP without its builders, it is same with the universe , it cannot exists without its Creator.
