@Reap Dude Mine is kind of the opposite. I got a lone budgie first, and she will only "talk" and babble to the newer budgie....who pecks at her, because she doesn't like it one bit. Only when the older chirps will newer budgie "listen" to her. Anything else, the newer budgie will just peck at her, or fly away. As for the other birds in the house, the older talking budgie will follow them around and talk in their faces, or to anyone who will listen, even humans, plants and toys.

Over on my channel, my brilliant blue crown is successfully coparenting “baby yoda” as a Christmas gift, with his brosmate, Lil Homie, our jenday. Our cockatoo is learning ballet, aerial hoop, gymnastics, art like drawing. They ARE that smart & we showcase that every week over on our parrot channel. Disco was a brilliant bird. But he also had a fully engaged life with his family. So they just flourish under that sort of parronting method, which is also one we believe in and try to use on our channel: engaged not caged. And yes our birds chose which side & saber, if you were wondering, & we’ll be posting video updates all month long. 😉 Birds are such good companions, how they acclimate to life with humans, and their love of interacting. It creates the right conditions for them to learn all sorts of things. Another of our “bird community” friends (disco’s people we’re always super nice to us & we just love them) is teaching her birds to read successfully and just published an amazing study. Our birds make every day a joy and blessing, so we try to educate, but also to continue learning.

The most underrated pet bird. On multiple occasions I have found escaped pet parakeets in Brooklyn living with flocks of sparrows. I have never known Sparrows to live with other bird species so it was very unusual. On three occasions I was able to use a laundry basket, stick and string to rescue the parakeets before it started getting too cold for them to survive. Don't buy them from pet shops, buy from a breeder so that you can get a hand fed and tame bird.

@Alchem I agree. I have not had great success with birds that were not hand fed and tame from a young age but I have heard of others who were successful. One woman who had close to 20 birds told me she would clip with feathers so that they could not fly and then she would work on taming them and allow the feathers to grow back. For me, it's also the bond that develops as well as the memories of having that bird from the time it was first discovering the world as a baby. Good luck.

But, as much as we need human company at least every now and then, specially these kind of animals crave for company of their own. my pet bird was a blessing when my Mom was house bound for many years. Dogs are awesome, but pet birds are super smart. They whistled to each other a lot during the day ( she was terrorized of birds after being attacked by a goose as a child) but she loved my bird.

I caught a Blue budgie as a young girl who obviously had human owner as he had few words he spoke. Was made to place an add in paper " no cell phones back then" for few weeks. With no response my little blue bugle " Joey" became my first pet and friend. Disco is so pretty with those purple nostrils and cheeks. But wow what a wonder he is. Would never get anything done spending all day just playing and loving him which is obvious how your love for him shows. Thank you for sharing Disco with us. 🐦🐦🐦😇

Lea Asnana I’m really glad I got a pair of budgies instead of one. I adore my birds but training them has been really tough and I can’t imagine if I only got one. They’re sweet and adorable but I just don’t have enough time to give them the attention they need.

if the birds are hand tamed, they will only interact with humans, so the bird might not like other birbs. if you don't have the time to interact with ur birb, then getting another birb is ideal

Please don’t get a mirror for your bird. It will become extremely hormonal because it thinks it a mate. When it can’t mate with it (because it’s a mirror), it will become frustrated and angry. This results in the bird screaming and biting you, and possibly even plucking out its feathers from the stress.
@lani.kellyy3 жыл бұрын
Um what?
@joostdriesens39843 жыл бұрын
Isn't this a 'it depends' thing? If you notice your bird is getting restless and frustrated then try removing the mirror. If he's fine then let him keep the mirror..
@vvamp1re3 жыл бұрын
They said something about the mirror in the begging I think

nah, they do that anyway. my pet bird got attached to me ( puke on you) for about a year and grew out of it. no mirror in his cage. No mate, they look at owner.

If you took your eyes off my old budgie for 5 minutes he would start screeching so loud. So he practically lived on my shoulder, talking to the corner of my glasses, and hiding under my hair. I still miss him, lovely bird.

I had a Budgie, that used to LOVE to torment the cat. Its name was GOTCHA (I kid you not, Thanks mum), but it started diving towards the cat, and in our horror we pictured the cat catching the budgie, it was like a death wish. Anyway, Turned out the budgie when dive bombing the cat, would peck the cats head as it flew past, to the extent the cat was SCARED, the budgie would return to its perch, and say "Hahahaha Gotcha Gotcha !". Where it got the laugh from I do not know.

It's because they are together... Talking in parrots occurs as a hormonal trigger from an attempt to sexually bond with a human. This is why, in most cases, only single birds learn to imitate human voice.
