Indeed they are! The pinguïn man hatch their egg in the middle of the Antarctic winter, at minus 60°C and with polar winds of 200 km/h commonly scratching the bare ice caps, trough the pool night, being continually in the dark for two months. In the meantime the wife walks over the ice to the open ocean, eats, and walks back to the breeding site. Here, the egg just hatched, and the female takes over the care of the young, while now the manz having lost 50% of his body mass, walked back to the shore (which is by then a fair bit closer due opening of the sea ice in spring) to get some food himself.
