If PANDIT Nehru, or Narendra Modi, or A. B. Vajpayee , or Morarji Desai had been Prime Minister of India in 1971, there would be NO independent nation called Bangladesh. How to objectively assess the character of Indira Gandhi? Well, 1. She was extremely shrewd 2. She was highly knowledgeable in International politics, especially GEO POLITICS. 3. She had huge experience. She accompanied her father on every foreign tour, she was familiar with top World leaders and learned successfully the ART OF POLITICS. 4. Mostly, she was dispassionate, cool, steady, Calculative. She hardly acted rashly. That's why she waited till December, 1971...........and gave the world leaders every opportunity to resolve the Bangladesh Crisis amicably. She also made it sure that China would not be able to attack India in Winter braving the heavy snow fall. 5. She had IRON WILL n was UNDAUNTED. by any hazards .....6. She had amazing FORESIGHT ............7. Her Defence Secretary Subramaniam said, " Such a golden opportunity comes only once in a century. " Indira Gandhi made full use of this "" MAXIM"......yes, literally, she Seized the day. On the other hand PANDIT Nehru assured Sheikh Mujibur Rahman of help at the appropriate time because he felt jittery following the 1962 Sino- Indian conflict in NEFA. For Nehru " Tomorrow never comes. General Ayub Khan n Z A Bhutto, finding a weak , frail Prime Minister L . B . Shastri , tried to settle some old scores over the Kashmir Dispute in 1965. Shastri died of heart attack in Tashkent . The war was a heavy strain on his mental state. 8. It is Indira Gandhi who created RAW in 1967. She jokingly said , " change the order .......it will be WAR.......RAW also sounds RAWALPINDI, the old capital of Pakistan. 9. India n Only India's National Interests were UPPERMOST in her mind. So, she didn't mind sacrificing the NON ALIGNMENT policy by signing the 25 year long Peace, Friendship and Cooperation Treaty with the SOVIET UNION in August 1971. 10.. She also gave very very useful advice to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.......Don't go for a Presidential System..........the mother of ALL COUPS n Military Regimes. **** Unfortunately, Mujib forgot her valuable advice n in 1974 switched over to the Presidential System of Government. And the rest is HISTORY unknown to none...............................He also introduced a One Party Political system prevailing in the Soviet Union n other Communist States..............
