BBC narrates only one political part of Nizam Mir Osman Ali Khan's role and leanings around the independence day of India. Nizam was much higher than that. He was given 21 Gun salute by the British and referred as HEH Nizam, or His Exalted Highness because of his philanthropic and social upliftment of people. He even gifted 2 squadrons of Spitfire warplanes to UK during WW II for the war effort as an independent monarch. I was present at Fateh Maidan Stadium when PM Shastri was weighed in gold coins amidst 30 thousand people gathered to watch the event. It was under his rule that Osmania Hospital, Osmania University, High Court building, Osman Sagar and Himayat Dagar dams were built to provide drinking water to Hyderabad and prevent flooding of river Musi. His rule saw concrete roads in Hyderabad city when it was unknown in other cities of India. There was the Nizam Railways, Nizam Bus Transport, and even a Mint to press his own coins. Nizam was a visionary and a benefactor and he set the foundations of modern Hyderabad city.

He was a frugal man one side of the story he was very generous with public utility projects very generous in giving donation to the universities and educational institutions. Sar Syed Ahmad Khan when he was seeking donations for Aligarh Muslim University ask for a modest donation from Nizam get the donation given by Nizam surprised everyone. Similarly when India was with war with China Nizam gave the largest ever gold donation in the history to the Indian government. The infrastructure which he foresaw 100 years ago is still the infrastructure of the modern Hyderabad as very few additions have been made. He was a great visionary. During drought and famine situations taxes were abolished by the Nizam but the local village heads Velma and Reddy collected taxes even during those times. All institutions are run by the Trust of Nizam. First public transport in India, the RTC., was launched by our Nizam. First electricity in India brought by our Nizam. When Telangana population was just few lakhs in Hyderabad underground drainage system was built to accomodate 40,00,000 population. Still today the same drainage system is accomodating 1,50,00,000 population of Hyderabad. We boast about World fame of Hyderabad. During British rule Hyderabad was *World's Fourth Most Developed City* in the World only after London, Paris and Melbourne. Much much more to say. The Nizam history doesn't end in this small page. This is the most ill researched presentation on Nizam Osman Ali. He was the most generous person of his time. He financed many persons to study abroad including Sarojini Naidu. Hindu employees in his state were given paid leave to travel religious places like Kashi, Jagannath temple etc. He commissioned hunderds of industries, dozens of colleges, hospitals, many dams and railway that was at par with British railways. Hyderabad state was the most developed part of undivided India that time having its own self sufficient administration including currency, postal system, police, bureaucracy etc. Of course he was living a very simple life and that he was his own choice. BBC research team is on leave it seems.
