My house was flooded by my classmates as I invited some of them for my birthday's party last year, but since I told my best friend to have a get-together when someone else was there, this person shared to everyone that the news came from the horse`s mouth. In the end, I enjoyed that lively environment; however I would`ve preferred to be around the ones I rely on. I guess I can`t have my cake and eat it.

'From the horse's mouth' could mean 'from a source of fact rather than account' and come from a time when the modern day car salesperson was selling people horses and the horse's teeth was like the car milometer. A horse trader might tell you a horse is five years old, but an expert could tell you the horse is ten years old and that was 'from the horses mouth' likewise, any statement proved by fact is 'from the horse's mouth. Another explanation might be 'first news of an event' as important news used to be taken place to place on horseback - just like 'winning by a nose' the horse was the first to arrive with the important news, so very new news is 'from the horse's mouth'. Another explanation might be 'what actually happened opposed to account' as all events of any importance were with horses and the horse would be seen as an impartial reliable witness (especially in battle) so 'from the horse's mouth' could have derived from 'the horses would tell a truthful story' and 'from the horse's mouth' allude to 'truth' not 'tale'. The BBC is probably echoing modern usage of the idiom, but it's very unlikely people in past centuries would have likened others to animals in polite conversation.

Don't be a Harry or Meghan in life. No matter instant praise or profit, there are no short cuts to emotional discipline and goodwill needed for authentic self respect.
@norfolkenchants8090 Жыл бұрын
Harry is not a man to be taken seriously. His comments about his family are spiteful, vindictive and hurtful but people don’t change overnight and rest assured they’ve seen this side of Harry before. This unnecessary drama will pass, it always does. While Harry rolls a spliff and continues to turn the spotlight on himself, the true Royals will go about their duties in a dignified, calm manner and continue to shine the spotlight on deserving causes.

I just don't understand why there is a phrase " Prince Harry book leaks", what's the meaning of leaks in this case? At first, I thought it was peak, just meaning the record of sales.
@bbclearningenglish Жыл бұрын
Ah, great question! In this context, to 'leak' means to 'make secret or private information known'. So, there was lots of secret or private information in Prince Harry's book that was going to become public when the book was available to buy, but some people leaked the information early. We use the verb 'leak' with things like security, or classified or personal information. Hope that helps!

No culturally classy man will admit to reading a book in which the author without consent describes intimate relationships, including sex with other people. Especially since these people can be easily identified. It is a form of rape and violence. It's funny that in the context of the book, everyone only talks about Harry and Meghan's privacy - that they once wanted privacy and ran away from the media and today they describe everything. It's hypocritical of course, but that's their business, they agreed to it. More sad, however, is that no-one notices what kind of violence they committed on the privacy of other people in this book. This lady from the first time was identified as their polo teacher. Other women are mentioned there as well. Did they agree to let the whole world read about their relationship? Do Harry and Meghan so supposedly understand what disrespect for privacy and leaking private information to the media is and what it does to mental health when it is not wanted, do they not notice what hell they may have inflicted on these people? This is a scandal, they should never be at any human rights, feminism or mental health gala ever again(sorry for my english)
