From one Welshman to another (I assume), this song is divinely written. The horses are the horses of the apocalypse. The new messiah will put things right once and for all, bring him on. Time to repent and prepare now. Dumnonia Watchman blog, if you're interested.

I love the bunnymen, probably my favourite band of all time and this is fine as a live performance considering how long the band have been going. What I don’t get is the decision to re record the classics. Not one of the new versions comes close to the originals for me, largely due to the vocals .
@davidb2095
@davidb2095 6 жыл бұрын
Totally agree. The new versions aren't good. Ian can't sing too well anymore, as painful as it is to say. I know a lot of bands are re-recording because they own the rights to these recordings, having been screwed out of the profits by the record labels the first time 'round. Not sure of Echo's and Korova's arrangement, though.

Not that bad. Sure, 2:37 is rough. And he's kinda pitchy here and there - a bit sharp every time he says "horses" (0:34, 1:20, 2:29), and "heard" at 1:31, but most of the rest he nails pretty well. Just needs to be more consistent. Btw, one thing he definitely hasn't lost is the way he sings the word "heart". There's always been a sort of plaintive quality to it, and a sweetness. And I always love hearing it. (3:01, 3:05)...

One of the most underrated groups of the 1980's. However Ian's voice shows the deterioration after years of smoking. Too bad. Their song "nothing last forever" has very deep lyrics. "I want more than I can give" "I want it now, don't tell me that my ship is coming in."

I find it funny to see comments about Ian's voice here. I really like his hoarse voice and I don’t see any problem because it doesn’t sound anymore like the voice he had when he was younger. Leonard Cohen, Tom Waits, Keith Richards and John Lee Hooker just to name a few are artists who have a great hoarse voice and who I admire a lot. Ian McCulloch is perfecting his voice, one day it will sound just like Tom Waits's, thank God.

Have to say I feel for Mac, something went wrong somewhere. Ian, imho, was one of the three best and most important male singers of the 'post-punk' period, the other two being Billy MacKenzie and Ian Curtis - all three being matchless, phenomenal singers. Mac's singing style and ability then was like nothing before or since - equally true of the other two singers also, but those who say, many here, that he is still as good are either stuck in sentiment or simply don't know what they're talking about. Nonetheless I live in hope that we may yet still see more from him and Will that matches the quality and power of their first (ahem, crucial) three albums.

Ils ont vraiment vieilli. Ça s'entend dans la voix. Dommage, je les aimais, il y a 30 ans. Francis

Seeing them in Toronto next month. Hope the performance is like others I've seen on KZbin, not this one. I've never seen them live, so regardless - we'll still have fun.

saw them in RVA a month or so ago with the Violent Femmes, despite his voice issues, they put on a very good show, they still play as tight as they ever have

@@rc-my9tc thanks, appreciate that. I missed the Femmes show in DC, so was determined to see them somewhere relatively close (I'm in western ny). Thanks again

Well the Toronto show in November was amazing! A night I'll never forget. Ian sounded incredible, as did Will and the rest of the band.
