I was in LA in 2004 then 2016 and the fire was always a big fear specially up in the hills. Friends from Topanga Canyon had to evacuate this time. Very worried about them and their family. Can't imagine how difficult this is.
@andreah637915 күн бұрын
Topanga Canyon has ALWAYS been a tinder box. I understand ppl love living away from the city, but we need to give it up. Get over it. I lived in the SF Valley for 45 years. I could see the Santa Anas getting worse over the decades. In the 60s, 70s, they use to be only in October, early November. It's only going to get worse. Fossil fuel CEOs knew what they sold created climate change. They acknowledged that fact in congressional hearings. They made sure their greed was safe by buying up every reichwing politician and major media they could.

embers can travel many miles with a strong wind. As to why nothing was ready it's really simple : gutting public budgets, the budget has been slightly lowered when it needed way more funding to have an efficient response to wildfires. Americans want a fast life with no seatbelts but wonder why they're going through the windshield when the car crashes.
@LuckyBaldwin77714 күн бұрын
You have no clue what those fires were like. They were pushed by 80 mile per hour winds. Flying embers were starting new spot fires 2 and 3 miles ahead of the fire front. Look at the devastated houses in Malibu. Those hills burned a few years ago. There were no trees, only grass covered those hills and the fire still burned those houses. I fought forest, rural and suburban fire in Cascades back in nineties. This fire, going through the homes and houses so quickly, reminds me of how some my fellow firefighters died on their feet. There in the forest floor. The ground had a hot pulse and with strange smell preceding each pulsation, as the light darkened; then the light shrank and began to bloom brighter. I was running when it started to bloom! The Chief yelled , stay your ground! I yelled back , we are dying now! I kept running, the other firefighters who ran with me all survived and none to badly burned except for the clumsy few who fell into the oil stricken terra firma. They had second degree burns throughout an average of nineteen percent, so not too bad for them but the others died screaming on their feet in the hot air. The Chief too! Is that what happened in L.A.? Arson was a possible suspect in the Cascadia Fires and I am wondering if this is the same culprit here in Los Angeles. -Commish

Timber houses are no good for any place on earth .English houses have been built with brick and stone,with block or brick internally,for many centuries now.timber burns but brick or stone doesn't. The American building inspectors need to take drastic action immediately or this natural disaster could happen again. I pray for all concerned in the disaster and hope they can gradually get back to a normal life .sending love from Manchester 🏴

3:56 This has nothing to do with global warming-it’s about how and where homes are built in California. Fire codes were designed to minimize risks in fire-prone areas, focusing on defensible space, fire-resistant materials, and safe building practices. Many older homes were built before these codes were in place, and rapid development in wildfire-prone regions often ignored or bypassed them. California’s natural fire ecology, combined with poor planning, is the real driver behind these destructive fires.

How did this happen in the winter? In my experience it is difficult for fires to continue in the winter, the trees are full of water
@mattkeating265714 күн бұрын
Winter is basically a uk summer in America so not enough rain to hold off the element of fire, plus that whole area was in a drought up until 2 years ago when it rained a lot which made rapid growth of shrubs, trees and grass which is perfect fuel for the fire. Which is why you see the fire you see today

@@rca6576 at the end of the day there was still no water or not enough water in the fire hydrants when it was desperately needed. Plenty of water? Sure. But where was the water when the firefighters need it? That’s water shortage regardless. And that is a systemic issue of the city
@rca657614 күн бұрын
@@tiffy623 You basically just said what I said but, reframed it. There was plenty of water and if there is plenty of water that is not a "water" shortage. The system was overwhelmed and water pressure was lost due to that. I will with hold an opinion on whether or not that's a system issue of the city until I know more about exactly how much water pressure a city that size has the ability to provide.
