I live in Barcelona. The rain was very heavy with thunderstorms this morning. But has since stopped (approximately noon). Currently overcast with some sun poking though. The road around Casteldfels flooded (a town where the footballers live). Not sure of current status. Update: Been informed that the road to/from is cleared and in use once again. I think the reason the airport shut was actually due to it raining INSIDE the terminals.

Roads, highways, high speed train lines, commuter trains, underground lines and bridges destroyed or blocked with thousands of smashed cars. First emergency and military forces had to reopen road communications so massive help can be delivered to all streets in more than eight cities involved. Electricity, internet, food and water logistics has been recovered when five days ago none of those services existed. Help for elderly and rescue of victims and dead or missing people is another priority. 20.000 people including military forces, rescue and emergency personnel, policemen, medical staff, fire department specialists, and construction workers are already in the area and growing in numbers each day. And very important the help of thousands of volunteers helping in all areas. That’s why I consider very unfair and unprofessional from BBC to give such a protagonist target to a person complaining about Public response when his situation is not a priority now in a huge devastating catastrophe where missing people are not found yet, there are medical and sanitary urgencies and critical blocked infrastructures.

AEMET (Spanish Meteorological Agency) issued a warning 5 days in advance. On the morning of the Deluge at 07:30 AEMET issued a "Red Alert" warning. But the regional President, and the Mayors in the area seemed to overlooked that Info. What has happened here? The people clearly didn't know how to respond to an emergency. Many run to the garages to pick up their cars, and got trapped down there. The Shopping Centers did not offered to its customers any Emergency Advice via the public address system. The Regional Government did not issued a "Red Alert Warning" to the population the day before. The Regional Emergency Team, in charge of natural disasters, was terminated a few months ago, because the politicians believed it was unnecessary. Children should be trained on how to respond to an emergency situation at schools. Shopping Centers should have an Emergency Situation protocol, so they can guide the masses using the Public Address System, when the unexpected happens.

Rafael is a Spanish journalist who has to read up on the autonomous regional governments in his own country. The way Spanish government is set up is that the autonomous regions are responsible for issuing alerts ( ie. Catalunya today) and asking the central government for help which Valencia dragged its feet doing. The reason Valencia didn't want to ask the central government for help is political. He was right there. People should be angry at Mazon.

The protocol is for the regional government (Valencia) to ask for help from the central government. The regional government were very slow to warn residents and again very slow to ask for help from the Spanish Government. So the fault lies with the Valencia Government and not Pedro Sanchez.

I live in Barcelona. So far the city itself has been mostly completely unaffected, what looks like normal rainy day. What you hear about is the PROVINCE of Barcelona. A town 30m away was flooded but as for the city itself it's as if nothing happened (as of today 04.11.24) besides the airport shutting down for whatever reason I don't know. But we know, news like to bloat, exaggerate and mislead (for example by implying barcelona the CITY and not specifying Barcelona the PROVINCE) so take it all with a grain of salt, at least for now and until you see actual videos, because news won't specify if it means more views and attention.

@@frmcf There was a massive spike in pressure on the 29th of oct over the med which would explain an occuled weather event like you discribe as normal in the area but given that there was no cold front in the area it doesn't make sence what caused the massive spike in pressure on the 29th and anomalies like these are not cause by climate change this was a freak yet to be explained event and the media go to term in the last few months is " Cyclogenseis conditions " and thats not just in spain so as the saying goes if it smells fishy its probably a dead fish .... maybe there is someone out there that can shed some light on it , im sure there are lots who can pass judgement on those who question the narrative 🤔
