This is what the armed conflict in Myanmar is about the control of illegal mining and drug ring operations. All this fighting for democracy is a load of crap every ethnic group in Myanmar is involved in illegal activity. There's no easier way to make money in Myanmar than to form armed ethnic groups to run illegal mining and extort civilian population in their states. Every ethnic/village "independence" army is a cover up for these illegal mining operations and they lie that they're fighting for democracy but in reality they're fighting for resources.

jade trade for burma is not different from blood diamond in african is not different from oil and gas in middle east. the most funny thing is that BBC try to blame china for such problem, - simply because china is market for those trade. maybe US consumer who bought oil from saudi kingdom should been blamed for human right abuse.

+eiji kenji blood diamond is so much different from jewellery in Myanmar and oil from middle-east, one is used to fund a bloody civil war, child solider, and slavery, hence illegal and banned, the other two are completely legal and is just another use of natural resources for commercial trade

Well, we in the collective west had our chance. The Brits surely had theirs when they still had Burma all to themselves. They could have turned the place into one of the most advanced economies and societies in Southeast Asia. But the Brits only looted Burma and raped local women. Not satisfied, the Brits even killed local elephants just for fun as recorded by George Orwell. As the British-trained Myanmar expert Thant Myint-U points out, that country is what it is today because of the ravages of British colonial rule. The Brits had their chance to improve the place, but they failed. It's time we allow local people to do it by themselves, leave them alone in peace. This British reporter Jonah Fisher is lucky that local people are nice. I've been to places where locals are hostile to former colonial masters or white folks. I hope the Brits are not planning to loot the local jade industry. That would be adding insult to injury to the Burmese people, their former colonial subjects

Canadian Jade is Nephrite while Burmese Jade is Jadeite... top quality jadeite is more valuable. Jadeite Jade Example: - sea.blouinartinfo.com/sites/default/files/lot_303_magnificent_natural_jadeite_and_diamond_pendent_necklace_and_matching_ring.jpg Nephrite jade example: - img0.etsystatic.com/035/0/6552140/il_570xN.583899540_mfo3.jpg both are beautiful in my opinion.
