I’m from Thailand. Now, people are discussing that maybe we should cancel school field trips. Personally, I don’t think that’s how this could be solved though. People still take busses to travel or visit other provinces. We need to improve road safety in this country.
@Farang_LifestylesАй бұрын
sounds like a typical Thai reaction,,, rather than determine that the vehicles used need to have frequent maintenance checks from a 3rd party and not the actual bus company that ignores the defects... maybe a better solution would be that the children should stay home as that would be much safer... at least until proper vehicles can be used for children
@MM-sf3rlАй бұрын
One aspect is more simple. Thai’s don’t wear seatbelts. Thirty years ago in Alaska, on the Seward Hwy, one year 27 people died on a single stretch of highway. The following year it was law to drive with your headlights on - the next year only two deaths. Maybe it’s only half the answer but it could start tomorrow. America made a simple public notice, “click it or ticket”. The great Ralph Nader saved millions of lives with common sense solutions.

Condolences to the families and friends of all those involved. The tank is underneath the seat !!

I too live in Thailand for just over one year. I’ve not even seen a hand full of accident, and none serious. However, I know the numbers, especially during “the seven deadly days” over new years. What I do see is that almost no one here wears a seatbelt. My girlfriend thinks seatbelts are dangerous. 😢 Also, comparing North America or Europe to Thailand does not work because of some many motorcycles here (mopeds). When you compare Thailand to Africa, it’s a more reasonable comparison, and, sadly, similar outcomes. It will be a sad day tomorrow in Thailand, and the rest of the week. Thai’s have good hearts.💕

There is absolutely no traffic police in Thailand. You can drive however you want and the police don’t do anything. They are more concerned about collecting fines by setting up roadblocks. They have become experts at collecting cash fines on the spot.

You are absolutely correct. You never see police actually helping people on the street except to report accidents.

Yes but this wasn’t actually a traffic accident, the title is inaccurate, it was a fire, from the gas.
@jonw8uk1Ай бұрын
@@MojoBrookhavenand what caused the gas to ignite? I read that the bus tyre blew, causing bus to crash into a concrete pillar - this is still a traffic accident. The sparks from this collision likely ignited the gas. The question is why did this cause a fire - there should be no gas leak - has the CNG system been checked recently? Is it a legal requirement for inspections on buses?Why couldn’t the emergency doors be opened? Was the ‘glass shatter’ hammers available inside the bus?

There is also a manually operated third exit at the rear as well. I read the driver ran off without assisting the passengers to exit 😡 That part brings tears to my eyes as a professional driver 😭 and even more so as i have a six year old daughter.
