On the Ukraine war’s eastern front, one Ukrainian unit has granted the BBC rare access to life on the frontline.
The BBC follows the 24th Mechanised Brigade as it straps DIY bombs to commercial drones, positioned just metres from the enemy.
Here, soldiers must be well-camouflaged as they are hunted by the Russians.

That old timer gun commander reminds me of my uncle currently in Ukraine for the past year as a foreign legion (retired Canadian army). He's 54 and fighting alongside US, Italian and other foreign legionaires, killing Russian troops regularly. The "old man" can still keep up with his much younger counterparts.. though my uncle has always been a fitness guru and is not typical for most 54 year olds. He's been wounded twice already, fortunately light injuries from mortar shrapnel, most of it stopped by his body armor so he's been able to stay there and keep fighting. Hope he makes it home.

Newsnight journalism at its finest and no surprise it is Mark Urban who is one of the best journalists on the staff, imho. The most moving part was the interview with the soldier and his comments on the Russian people. It is not too big a stretch to say the Russian people will have to endure the shame of this conflict as long as the German people have about WWII. If they have any sense they will rise up, take up arms and fight to remove the current regime, leave Ukraine and work with the international community to rehabilitate themselves because otherwise I can see this being a blight on their country for the next 50 years.

I see they are using a DJI Mavic 3 to carry a small bomb as payload. That would have been my choice as the Mavic 3 boasts one of the highest payload capacity of any UAV in its price range. It can carry 4.5kg of additional weight. I did some checking and discovered that a surprisingly powerful explosive can be constructed in this weight range.
@jimjones9239
@jimjones9239 7 ай бұрын
You are misinformed. A Mavic 3 can carry up to 900 grams which is far from your stated 4.5Kg, the specs say 500 grams. These typical drone attacks are inside 5 Km to give the drone enough range to return. Carrying more weight even if the drone could lift it will make it a one way trip.

That's an anti personnel landmine not a grenade, you could throw it I guess and it might or might not explode but that's not what it's designed for.

Using off the shelf parts, open source flight controller software (e.g. arducopter) and some knowledge, one can build their own to desired specifications including GPS and video support. I've done two of them myself. All my "raw materials" came from two companies in California (flight controller and frame) while the rest came from online vendors who import parts from China. Like everything else nowdays, China makes things cheaper and thus dominates the markets. I'm sure MANY "drone" hobbyists in Ukraine who now help with the war, have the same knowledge as I do, or more. This is a "watershed", game changing moment in warfare.

what does God and Ukraine have to do with it, a Nazi pig? thanks to you terrorists, for whom there is not even a place on earth, your friends Bandera pigs go to hell to your hero Bandera and Hitler. and you American pig don't understand that Washington provoked the conflict? oh, poor Ukrainians prevented Bandera pigs from killing unwanted in all the traditions of NATO and the hero of the European Union, Hitler. why don't you want to take Ukraine to the European Union? they are your brothers, they also bring destruction and terrorism. and the soldiers of Ukraine , as well as NATO soldiers , are engaged in same - sex perversions in the trenches and take drugs and hide in residential buildings , as they were taught by NATO . gays, terrorists, Nazis, drug addicts , psychopaths in my opinion are ideal soldiers for NATO .

The most recent edition of the US Army War College’s academic journal includes a highly disturbing essay on what lessons the US military should take away from the continuing war in Ukraine. By far the most concerning and most relevant section for the average American citizen is a subsection entitled “Casualties, Replacements, and Reconstitutions” which, to cut right to the chase, directly states, “Large-scale combat operations troop requirements may well require a reconceptualization of the 1970s and 1980s volunteer force and a move toward partial conscription.” An Industrial War of Attrition Would Require Vast Numbers of Troops The context for this supposed need to reinstate conscription is the estimate that were the US to enter into a large-scale conflict, every day it would likely suffer thirty-six hundred casualties and require eight hundred replacements, again per day. The report notes that over the course of twenty years in Iraq and Afghanistan, the US suffered fifty thousand casualties, a number which would likely be reached in merely two weeks of large-scale intensive combat.

WW I was idiotic. They had artillery fire with one gun every 20m firing for days on end. Most of the time they were just ploughing dirt. On average they needed 100 artillery shells to kill one soldier (and even that's an underestimate because most soldiers were probably killed by machine gun fire or died in close combat). Even the drone war right now is primitive. In ten years all drones will be loitering ammunitions that will find a human being using infrared seekers. The ratio will be almost one drone for every one KIA or WIA.

Americans used stimulus money to pay down credit card debt during the pandemic. Americans owed a little over $1 trillion in revolving debt when the pandemic began. It fell below that level in 2020 thanks to an 11.2% drop. We saw small upticks in credit card balances in February and March of 2021 as the recovery began, with a sharp drop in April when another round of stimulus checks rolled out. But Americans started borrowing in earnest again in May 2021. Since then, we’ve seen a relatively steady increase in revolving debt. As of the end of July, Americans owed $1.27 trillion in revolving credit. The bigger problem is the double whammy of rising debt and rising interest rates. Average credit card interest rates eclipsed the previous record high of 17.87% months ago. The average annual percentage rate (APR) currently stands at 20.71%. As a result, more and more Americans are struggling to pay their credit card balances. Now there is another looming problem. It’s getting harder for Americans to borrow money. And that has them worried. Nearly 60% of the respondents in a New York Fed consumer expectations survey said it’s harder to get credit cards, mortgages and other loans than it was a year ago. It was the highest level since the New York Fed started the data series back in 2013. Another Fed survey of loan officers reveals their fears aren’t unfounded. Banks reported that lending standards tightened across all consumer loan categories and all categories of residential real estate (RRE) loans. Meanwhile, the number of banks reporting tighter standards for credit cards rose by 36%. Banks have also significantly tightened standards for business loans. This is a recipe for disaster. We have an economy that runs on debt and borrowing. Debt has become much more expensive with rising interest rates and it’s getting harder to get loans. Meanwhile, more and more Americans are maxing out their credit cards, and they are starting to have trouble paying the bills. It seems likely that at some point in the near future, the tidal wave of debt is going to drown the “resilient American consumer” and the American economy is going to plunge over a cliff. The mainstream narrative is that the economy is fine because consumers are still spending despite high price inflation and rising interest rates. But nothing about this is fine. The underlying assumption is that Americans wouldn’t keep spending if they were really in trouble. But I think a lot of people are spending on credit cards precisely because they are in trouble. They don’t have a choice. A JD Power analyst made this very point. The pandemic-era savings cushions are gone, the economy is shaky and consumers are leaning more heavily than ever on their credit cards to cover day-to-day expenses. Consumers are using their cards for a lot of everyday purchases. Grocery shopping is the lead purchase type that consumers say they are making.” Even the mainstream is starting to recognize this isn’t a sustainable trajectory. Bloomberg reported, “Despite persistent inflation and high interest rates, consumer spending has remained resilient and helped power the economy. Some have resorted to credit cards and savings to do so, but with savings shrinking and delinquencies on the rise, some economists doubt the current spending momentum is sustainable.” It’s not. Americans have managed to kick the can down the road using credit cards and accumulated savings. The question is how much road is left?

Drones that have VTOL (vertical takeoff and landing - like your Harriers) motors on it strong enough to carry a payload the weight of an adult human male. Jet black, ROCKET powered drones with a camouflaged heat signature technology flown at evening/night. Translucent or extremely light blue, blue/white drones with military camouflage technology in the drones' "skin", flown during the morning hours through the afternoon. Technology to detect incoming bullets, missiles etc and upon being fired on release the payload forced downward by a jet or rocket engine and timed to explode at 6 to 7 ft above the terrain. Payload, in addition to what it already has should include BB's with 4 point spikes and paper thin, cylindrical razor blades with an additional payload of hydrochloric acid. Unleash these on every and anything Russian, randomly but consistently until the occupiers feel like leaving Ukraine may be a safer alternative than fighting them in their own country. Our countries (US and Great Britain) should get together and help Ukrainians build drones based on this model. I believe it would make a noticeable difference, even for future security.

@williamhayes981 : Watching the Ukrainian soldiers abandon that heavy gun immediately after firing it - suppose such gun emplacements , far enough from the front , could be located in tunnels ? The gun after firing is hidden underground temporarily , safe from incoming shell/missile fire ? Also , have many rubber replicas of weapons , e.g. rubber HIMARS , rubber HOWITZERS , etc. which could be moved and deployed by not more than two men . These would draw enemy fire away from the real weapons . The west could have factories where rubber replicas could be made in quantity .

@@williamhayes981 The point of a drown is to be disposable, all that shit would make a single drone cost 150k or even more, politicians and some of the populace are already getting annoyed at the amount of money being poured at ukraine, and now you want the U.S to develop and pour billions into some sci fi drones, curb your delusions. If the U.S really wanted to win this quick. they would have sent 300 abrams instead of 30, and sent atacms and longer range munitions, but that cost money, and atacms are in low volume only reason atacms are now being greenlit, is because a replacement has concluded development.
