Because it's not just the DJ you're paying for, you're paying to experience some of your favorite DJs immerse you in your favorite songs with those ginormous speakers and crazy light shows. It's the same as why someone that loves a band or an orchestra, flock to see them live in-person. It's easy to dismiss DJs like that, but I don't go to a local pub to only watch my friend's fingers and arms move around for an hour, I'm there to experience the music from the source with a shit ton of other people that aren't afraid to just like the music they like. As someone who felt the same way and didn't like EDM but then had the chance to watch Calvin live, you really have to be there to understand. It's about the transitions between the songs, how the DJ hypes up the audience, the energy from the crowd.
