I think everyone needs to view/listen to this as a COVER, like it is stated. When people do covers, they add their own swing to it, not necessarily trying to imitate the original tone by tone or whatever (I don't sing haha). I think Kiesza did this wonderfully, perfectly depicting her own style with the great Naughty Boy song.

I can definitely respect that she put her own swing and quite honestly she got most of the people who try to do a Sam Smith song beat. I do however, come into BBC1 hoping but not expecting for a cover that adds interesting twist but remain that's just as good, or lord forbid take it to the next level. Think about it a next level Sam Smith o_0! It didn't flop quite as hard as the Ed Sheeran cover of Stay with Me, quite wonderful actually like you said, but a definite notch down from the original for me.

I am not a fan of theirs however. The sound quality of this is appalling compared to when it was live on the radio. Her voice had a soulful quality to it that isn't apparent on this video.

So much hate for no reason in the comments section. Kiesza and the backup singers did a great job. Being green with envy isn't a good look y'all.
@skunksmoker146 жыл бұрын
Andrew Kim Just because people are saying they don't like it, it doesn't mean they are showing hate or, like the lights behind her, 'green with envy'. People can give constructive criticism and have an opinion on something without feeling hate. Showing hate would be people writing things like "oh listen to this sack of shit cat being dragged backwards through a hedge" "listen to her trying to hit the high notes she sounds like a cunt" Those would be words of hate.

That's even better than the original performance of this song, it's sort of more emotional, passionate and with more acute feelings, with a lot of artistic value, and Kiesza's facial expressions are priceless too. Such an existential and psychological performance. Not to mention that poweful voice. In my opinion, that is simply a masterpice, can't stop listening. Absolutely beautiful! Incredible!

I absolutely love this cover, the backing vocals are first to captivate me then Kiesza nails it and in my opinion its better than the original. One backing vocal seems to get more camera time than the other, you can tell from her face that music is very important to her, she's totally lost in the music.

She should've singed a whispered version not trying for a "powerful" one
@dazem88 жыл бұрын
+Lex C i agree. i thought she sounded really good in the beginning and at the end when it was softer singing. she has a good voice either way, but i would have liked to hear the "softer" version. but then people on here would be like, ugh she didn't even try! you can't win, lol.

A tone lower I would have actually enjoyed it. Great singer, but my vocal chords were hurting hearing her struggeling up there. But that does not mean she is no good, just makes her human ;)
@Rosannasfriend9 жыл бұрын
I do think she always tries to sing higher than her natural range. She can hit really high notes, but her voice doesn't sit there like she wants to pretend it does. If she doesn't want to sound strained, she needs to practice something called "forward placement " to reach those notes with more ease. Otherwise, she should realize it's ok to lower to the key, or else she damage her voice completely.
