I remember when this album came out last year, I was on holiday in L.A when the album dropped. It was my first ever time in America and this song came on and I remember the magical feeling of hearing this song for the very first time.. driving around L.A in the sun with this song blasting in my ears ❤️ I’m so so glad this song has become a big hit! I had the pleasure of hearing it live in person during their U.K tour in January and it was an otherworldly experience.

NME and Rolling Stone gave it 5* ratings, with RS saying it is 'a defining blueprint on how to do arena shows'. If you want to see a recording of the whole show, there is a great recording on YT of them performing the current show at the Madison Square Garden in late November 2022, it was done in conjunction with Amazon streaming. The podcast was undoubtedly distasteful, but the whole concept is that it came from an original podcast called 'Cumtown', where the two presenters (who are left-wing liberals btw) attempt to outgross and offend in a p*ss-take of right-wing podcasts like Alex Jones and other shock jocks. It had a whole culture of 'bits' and 'in jokes' around it, particularly around being gay etc, with everyone in on the joke. So obviously without that context, when MH was a guest and it was blasted to a general audience, it appeared even more outrageous than normal. I'm glad MH apologised to Ice Spice, it was uncalled for the hosts to name a particular person and mock her and he shouldn't have laughed along. However, MH is socially liberal and he is not sexist, racist, homophobic or a Nazi, that is total nonsense for anyone who has tracked his work over the years. He makes mistakes, like us all, and takes the British Edgelord thing too far at times, but he is a very decent and talented person. Plus The 1975 band are terrifically talented also, and they all deserve their success. I say this btw as a leftie-liberal WOC, so I'm in the target group that people are getting offended on behalf of.
