Marlaa a I hope this isn’t sacrilege, but prefer the new line up, especially for their live performance. They seem much looser and more adventurous. Of course they did have to replace him with several people so that is saying something.
@OOOSCAAARRR4 жыл бұрын
@@willmeyer2745 I personally feel that the sheer scale of their arrangements and songs in terms of instrumentation and production relies on a lineup of this size, especially in the case of songs from MVOTC where they're practically impossible to recreate if Rostam was playing multiple instruments. One thing that may suck in the future is the absence of Rostam's creative opinion and song writing process, although having said that, Ezra is a great musician in addition to being a phenomenal lyricist, and I have often thought that lyrics were the strongest focal point of their songs, along with the multicultural fusion of musical styles that BOTH Ezra and Rostam brought to the band's sound. I'd like him to rejoin the group to be honest but the current lineup should remain as well, however if everyones happy then I'm happy! :)

@@OOOSCAAARRR so you’ve had a year to think about it.....I’m glad you responded. I’ve always liked Vampire Weekend, but Father of the Bride was the album I’ve been waiting for personally. Unfortunately, Rostam may have been my least favorite part of the band. That being said I still think those albums and shows sounded great and even amazing sometimes. It’s just a style thing I guess. Every time I hear a Baroque hook I think Rostam.
@OOOSCAAARRR4 жыл бұрын
@@willmeyer2745 Hi man, yeah FOTB was most definitely more than well worth the five pounds I spent on it. The debut album is still the best, it's one of my all time favourites, but I have to say that FOTB is the second best Vampire Weekend album. I have mixed opinions on some tracks, but the summery hits like This Life, Harmony Hall, Unbearably White and Big Blue are incredibly good. Its interesting to note that Rostam apparently had some sort of a hand in producing Harmony Hall, and I can definitely see that influence and how it also benefited the track. Haim being brought into the vocal equation also spruced up these tracks, I only like some of their original work but Daniella Haim's vocals definitely complemented Ezra extremely well. I'd also argue that these are some of the best lyrics since the debut album, and tracks like Harmony Hall And Big Blue have left room for some profound thought as to what the songs mean I must say.

I think the whole song is about the current state of politics. "harmony hall" is actually another term for echo chamber. The lyric "anger wants a voice, voices wanna sing, singers harmonize till they can't hear anything" sounds like what has happened on social media with people going in their own little bubbles and never hearing viewpoints that differ from their own.
