He was pro-Europe and probably too tolerant of illegal immigration.

All that stuff that was said at the beginning in 1983 actually happened! Except when he said "you'll be appearing on here for the next 50 years, which is really sad. One of the best ever characters in British politics, and because when I heard on the news on June 2nd about his death, it was so sudden and shocking that it hasn't actually sunk in just how sad this really is. Have nothing but the upmost respect for Charles, and not just because I support the liberal democrats. It wouldn't matter which party he belonged to, he'd still be a great politician. I really feel for his son Donald, right now, he's only 10 years old, bless him. :'(

The saddest loss of 2015. I'm not ashamed to say I shed tears on June 2nd when the news of Charles's death broke. RIP Charles.

As a socialist, I absolutely loved this man. Best leader the Lib Dems ever had. He was thrown under the bus. Such a principled man.💛

A great politician. It surprises me how strong the feeling is in Scotland, particularly amongst SNP supporters, that Scotland is somehow shut-out from Westminster politics, or not represented by it. My God, how prominently and numerously have the Scots been represented at the very top of Westminster politics - and respected widely for it!

Very true and I think a lot of it was down to their Christian upbringing. Charles Kennedy and John Smith are two standouts tragically leaving us in their prime. It’s sad those values seem to be leaving Scotland.
