I think this interview was very important for Messi to hear because there's been a lot of pressure and negativity coming his way despite trying his best tournament after tournaments. It lifted off some of the the things weighing on his mind I imagine because for example, that Netherland game really got to him. I felt touched watching that interview and you can tell, Messi felt it too. The love for him has been conditional before and in his last WC, this interview showed that some people do love him unconditionally despite the results of previous WCs.

I'm 57 now and have seen a lot of football. From the time I can remember I have loved Brazil, its players and the Brazilian flair. But without doubt, Messi is perhaps the greatest footballer I have seen. I've seen Maradona in his peak and while I agree era's are different and to compare players from different generations would be a travesty, but in my humble opinion, he is simply put the greatest footballer we have seen. In terms of football on and off the field. A thorough gentleman. He has made me weep many a time just watching him play. He is simply put a man's who has spent a lifetime having a relationship with a ball. He was born to play football and absolutely nothing else. and i couldn't agree more with the reporter. If I as an Indian can feel this way, I do not know how an Argentine would feel about their hero. She spoke true, bare, pure emotions here, many would struggle to put them in proper sentences.
